PRN Pharmacy Technician

Pharmacy technicians work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist in preparing medications to dispense to patients. To do this, pharmacy technicians need to demonstrate proper pharmaceutical techniques and possess the interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with patients as well as the pharmacist. Pharmacy technicians need to learn medication names, actions, uses, and doses. They need to have a working knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, data entry and recordkeeping, and pharmacy law and ethics. 

A caregiver in this position works a day/evening rotation between 8:00am – 8:00pm. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Refill and maintain automated dispensing systems.  

  • Fill medication carts daily.  

  • Prepare orders and maintain inventory for the pharmacy.  

  • Repackage bulk medications.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • A high school diploma or GED.  

  • Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy. You must be eligible for registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy and register within 6 months of hire.  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program.  

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). CPhT through the PTCB is required within 18 months of hire.  

  • Six months of hospital experience.
