Vice President of Sales

Are you a results-driven sales leader who thrives on driving growth, developing high-performing teams, and navigating complex, multi-product sales environments? At Opendoor, we’re looking for a Vice President of Sales to lead and transform our sales organization – delivering conversion, margin, and an industry leading customer experience for home sellers, buyers, real estate agents, homebuilder sale associates, and our brand partners.

This role is about more than hitting revenue targets—it’s about fundamentally reshaping how we sell. You’ll lead the transition from a historically support-oriented team to a high-performing, conversion-focused sales organization that excels in a growing multi-product environment. You will build integrated sales systems that are digital, analytical, technical, and personal. You’ll inspire and manage your team with scalable incentive programs that attract and retain top talent, while ensuring financial discipline. If you thrive in an environment of rapid change, complex problem-solving, and bold innovation, this is the role for you.

What You’ll Do

  • Drive a strategic sales transformation. Lead the shift from a service-oriented team culture to a conversion-focused and margin-focused sales organization that delivers measurable results across key metrics.
  • Develop and implement multi-product sales strategies. Build a sales motion that supports multiple product offerings across multiple audiences —including Opendoor’s cash offer, MLS listings, private market buyer offers, and potential value-added services (e.g., home warranties, insurance, security), across consumers, agents, homebuilder sales associates and brand partners such as Zillow. Ensure the team has the right skills, scripts, and coaching to excel in this new environment.
  • Design incentive compensation plans. Partner with Finance to develop scalable, responsible compensation structures that attract, reward, and retain top-performing sales talent while aligning incentives with business goals.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team. Recruit, develop, and inspire a team of sales leaders and front-line sellers who excel in closing deals, driving margin, and delivering an exceptional customer experience.
  • Explore innovative selling mechanisms. Evaluate and implement new sales channels, including third-party partnerships, to manage seasonal volume cycles and reduce team costs without compromising performance.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally. Work closely with Product, Finance, Marketing, and Operations to ensure alignment across teams, sales integration in tech, processes, and objectives, and drive initiatives that improve sales effectiveness, customer experience, and profitability.
  • Leverage data to inform strategy. Monitor and analyze key performance metrics—conversion rates, unit margins, customer satisfaction—and use insights to optimize sales strategies and processes.

Who You Are

  • A real estate, home hunting hobbyist. You shop for homes when you’re on vacation. You tour open houses for fun on the weekends. You know many real estate agents and nerd out on market conditions for this complicated, exciting industry.
  • A transformational sales leader. You have a proven track record of leading sales teams through significant change, from shifting cultural mindsets to driving results in complex, multi-product environments.
  • Results-oriented and data-driven. You thrive on delivering measurable outcomes and use data to inform decisions, track progress, and continuously refine your approach.
  • A builder of scalable systems and teams. You know how to design and implement scalable sales processes, coaching programs, and incentive plans that align team behavior with company goals.
  • An expert in multi-product sales. You’ve led sales organizations that sell multiple products or services and understand the nuances of training, motivating, and incentivizing teams in this environment.
  • Financially disciplined. You partner effectively with Finance to build compensation plans and manage budgets in a way that supports growth while maintaining profitability.
  • Customer-centric and empathetic. You understand that selling a home is a significant emotional and financial decision for homeowners, and / or partnering with Opendoor can change the pace of an agent or Homebuilder sales associates business, and you’re passionate about delivering a seamless and trustworthy experience for them all.
  • An agile and creative problem solver. You’re comfortable navigating ambiguity, exploring new ideas, and testing innovative approaches to improve sales outcomes and operational efficiency with an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Collaborative and influential. You excel at working across functions, aligning stakeholders, and influencing decisions at all levels of the organization. Your focus is making things happen, not holding meetings, and you operate organically to best fit the shape of the situation to change it to your advantage.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in sales leadership roles, preferably in real estate, technology-enabled services, or multi-product sales environments.
  • Experience leading large, distributed teams and scaling operations across multiple markets.
  • Proven success in designing and managing complex incentive compensation plans.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience managing sales metrics, forecasting, and pipeline performance.
  • Experience with third-party sales support models or outsourcing solutions to manage volume variability.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with a track record of inspiring high-performing teams.
  • Phoenix, AZ office location / ability to be in office 3 days a week to be key senior leader in that key sales and customer service location.
