Job Description Summary

Steam turbines are at the heart of some of the world's most efficient and cleanest power generation. In combined-cycle plants, they enable peak efficiency, support carbon-neutral fuels including hydrogen, and lay the groundwork for carbon capture integration. The engineering behind them is precise, complex, and consequential.

As Lead LP (Low Pressure) Hood Engineer on GE Vernova's Steam Turbine Engineering team, you will own the design of LP Hood components and crossover piping for combined-cycle steam turbines from concept through execution. You will work across a global network of engineers, manufacturing teams, and supply chain partners — and you will play an active role in developing the junior engineers around you. This is a role where technical depth and collaborative leadership go hand in hand.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Own LP Hood and crossover pipe component design across Order-to-Remittance (OTR) activities for new steam turbine units
  • Lead and review engineering analyses to ensure designs meet all required Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) parameters, applying fundamentals of mechanical design including material properties, statics, strength of materials, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Implement technology advancements across the shaftline system, subsystem, component, and material levels
  • Collaborate with cross-functional global teams — including steampath, rotor, thermodynamics, manufacturing, drafting, and global supply chain — to deliver for customers and support mutual technical growth
  • Support junior LP Hood engineers in their day-to-day work and professional development
  • Design with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) principles embedded from the start, including safe approaches to lifting and transportation in manufacturing and field settings
  • Contribute to Research, Technology, and Standards (RTS) and New Product Introduction (NPI) activities as required

Qualifications

You are an experienced mechanical or turbomachinery engineer with a solid foundation in steam turbine component design — someone who is ready to take ownership of a critical system and help shape how the next generation of engineers grows into their roles.

Required

  • Significant experience in engineering, technology, or systems engineering with strong mechanical design fundamentals (material properties, statics, strength of materials, FEA)
  • Engineering experience in steam turbine design and/or operability, including familiarity with steam turbine component design processes, tools, and procedures (Schenectady, NY and Querétaro: 4+ years | Elbląg, Poland: significant experience)
  • Proficiency in English

Preferred

  • FEA capability with commercial simulation tools
  • Experience with stationary steam turbine component design
  • Familiarity with the full manufacturing process: fabrication, machining, and factory assembly/testing as applied to power generation equipment
  • Knowledge of gas turbines or other turbomachinery products
  • Proficiency in a second language (German, French, Spanish, or Polish preferred)

A Formal Education Note

A formal education and subsequent Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline is valued, but we are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.
