The Hartford is in search of a technology leader, reporting to the VP, Head of Personal Lines Technology. This critical leadership role will define and execute the technical strategy to expedite delivery of significant business capabilities and products in an Agile delivery model, enhancing productivity, and improving code quality.  This leader will be accountable for our Software Engineering discipline and workforce strategy. This role will manage a dynamic team of Software Engineers delivering capabilities that achieve critical business KPIs and OKRs that will enable our Personal Lines business to win in the market in collaboration with Value Stream owners, Business Owners, Architecture and other shared technology shared services. 

The Hartford is proud to offer a hybrid work location model designed to support flexibility. This position requires office presence in Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC minimally Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with remote flexibility Monday and Friday.

The primary responsibilities of the position are:

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for the transformation of the Personal Lines Software Engineering culture, driving high quality technology and establishing modern software engineering processes and practices that enable greater business results
  • Lead, manage, and develop a large and dynamic team of software engineers
  • Develop a talent strategy to attract, develop, and retain high performing and high potential software engineering talent
  • Lead complex solution design, IT feasibility, and estimation in strong collaboration with architecture
  • Trusted advisor to Business and IT senior leaders about relevant emerging technology trends and use cases to influence business and technical roadmaps
  • Partner with IT and business leaders to influence and advance strategy, roadmaps, platforms and tool choices for the enterprise.
  • Champion Innovation across the organization and the business to enable enhanced customer value.
  • Build technical expertise with emerging development tools and frameworks.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to leverage data and metrics to validate assumptions, recommendations and driver actions or influence decisions.
  • Perform market research on emerging trends for technology disruptors in the field, Information protection and secure development practices.

Qualifications:

  • 10 or more years of experience in application software solution development along with managing software engineering teams.
  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Industrial & Systems Engineering, Information Technology, or related field
  • Prior experience leading large software engineering teams
  • Experience working on automation and developmental works related to infrastructure operations
  • Proficient in various AWS cloud components
  • Servant leadership abilities with skills in cultivating technology talent for the future through coaching, developing, and mentoring
  • Track record of driving innovation and continuous improvement in engineering practices, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
  • Experience managing complex vendor relationships and experience working with an offshore delivery model
  • Excellent communicator who can effectively translate technology concepts into business language and adjust as needed to target audience
  • Excellent leadership skills including the ability to effectively influence across multiple teams, organizations and across the enterprise.
  • Property & Casualty insurance experience is preferred
  • Prior Duck Creek technology solutions experience a plus

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$180,000 - $270,000
