About the Role

The Sales Engineer is responsible for evaluating customer requirements and developing accurate technical and commercial quotations. Serving as the primary technical resource throughout the quotation process, this role partners with customers and internal stakeholders to develop technical solutions that meet customer requirements while supporting business objectives.

The Sales Engineer evaluates manufacturability, develops manufacturing assumptions and technical cost estimates, and supports successful project handoffs from quotation through new product introduction. Working closely with the Document Control Clerk, this role helps ensure product documentation, bills of material, and engineering information used during the quoting process are accurate and current while aligning customer requirements with manufacturing capabilities and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and timely technical and commercial quotations in response to requests for quotation (RFQs) and customer inquiries.
  • Review customer drawings, specifications, bills of material, and technical documentation to determine quotation requirements and manufacturability.
  • Develop manufacturing assumptions, labor standards, and technical cost estimates to support accurate quotations and commercial pricing decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather technical, operational, testing, and commercial information needed to prepare complete and accurate quotations.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource during the quotation process, providing engineering guidance and technical recommendations to support customer and business requirements.
  • Identify technical and commercial risks that may impact cost, manufacturability, lead time, or successful execution of customer requirements.
  • Recommend alternative materials, tolerances, processes, or design improvements that improve manufacturability, reduce cost, shorten lead times, or mitigate technical risk while meeting customer requirements.
  • Partner with the Document Control Clerk to develop and maintain quotation documentation, bills of material, drawings, and documented exceptions required to support the quoting process.
  • Organize and document quotation assumptions, supply chain quotations, make-versus-buy decisions, manufacturing plans, and related technical information to ensure a smooth handoff to the New Product Introduction (NPI) team.
  • Support new product introductions, engineering changes, and continuous improvement initiatives to improve quotation accuracy, consistency, and manufacturing capability.
  • Monitor quote turnaround metrics and support continuous improvement initiatives to improve responsiveness, consistency, and overall quote quality.
  • Provide technical support to internal and external stakeholders throughout the quotation process.
