The Company

PayPal has been revolutionizing commerce globally for more than 25 years. Creating innovative experiences that make moving money, selling, and shopping simple, personalized, and secure, PayPal empowers consumers and businesses in approximately 200 markets to join and thrive in the global economy.

We operate a global, two-sided network at scale that connects hundreds of millions of merchants and consumers. We help merchants and consumers connect, transact, and complete payments, whether they are online or in person. PayPal is more than a connection to third-party payment networks. We provide proprietary payment solutions accepted by merchants that enable the completion of payments on our platform on behalf of our customers.

We offer our customers the flexibility to use their accounts to purchase and receive payments for goods and services, as well as the ability to transfer and withdraw funds. We enable consumers to exchange funds more safely with merchants using a variety of funding sources, which may include a bank account, a PayPal or Venmo account balance, PayPal and Venmo branded credit products, a credit card, a debit card, certain cryptocurrencies, or other stored value products such as gift cards, and eligible credit card rewards.  Our PayPal, Venmo, and Xoom products also make it safer and simpler for friends and family to transfer funds to each other. We offer merchants an end-to-end payments solution that provides authorization and settlement capabilities, as well as instant access to funds and payouts. We also help merchants connect with their customers, process exchanges and returns, and manage risk. We enable consumers to engage in cross-border shopping and merchants to extend their global reach while reducing the complexity and friction involved in enabling cross-border trade.

Our beliefs are the foundation for how we conduct business every day.  We live each day guided by our core values of Inclusion, Innovation, Collaboration, and Wellness. Together, our values ensure that we work together as one global team with our customers at the center of everything we do – and they push us to ensure we take care of ourselves, each other, and our communities.

Job Summary:

This role drives adoption of PayPal's full suite of commerce and payments solutions — including embedded payments, subscription billing, checkout, and agentic commerce — across the PE/VC ecosystem. Responsible for executing BDR campaigns to identify and unlock new PE and VC firm partnerships, generating qualified pipeline for PayPal's vSaaS Partner Sales, Enterprise, and Outbound Sales teams, and directly closing merchant deals under $1M TPV and vertical SaaS platform opportunities under $10M TPV. Reporting to the Director of PE & VC Partnerships, this position combines strategic BDR outreach, partnership development, and transactional sales execution in a greenfield initiative.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with internal teams to enhance partnership processes.
  • Manage and grow key partnerships.
  • Determine appropriate actions for partnership issues.
  • Implement best practices to improve partnership effectiveness.
  • Influence the quality and efficiency of partnership programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:

Your day-to-day:

Pipeline Generation & Partner Development (60–70% of role)

  • Prospect, identify, and qualify portfolio companies and vertical SaaS platforms within PE and VC firm portfolios for PayPal commerce and payments opportunities spanning embedded payments, subscription billing, checkout, and agentic commerce.

  • Conduct portfolio mining and ecosystem mapping across target PE/VC firms to build actionable pipeline for vSaaS Partner Sales (>$10M TPV), Enterprise Sales (>$100M TPV), and Outbound Sales (>$1M TPV) teams.

  • Execute targeted BDR campaigns to identify, engage, and unlock new relationships with PE and VC firms that do not yet have a formal partnership with PayPal — including cold calling investment professionals, portfolio operations leads, and platform services teams via phone, email, and LinkedIn outreach.

  • Qualify and develop PE/VC firm-level opportunities through discovery calls and initial meetings, then pass qualified firms to the Director for formal partnership negotiation and agreement execution.

  • Work referral deals originated by VC firms, developer partners, system integrators, and agency partners for merchants under $1M TPV through to activation.

  • Manage and nurture relationships with ecosystem referral partners including accelerators, incubators, and startup platforms to maintain a consistent flow of qualified merchant and platform leads.

Direct Sales & Deal Execution (30–40% of role)

  • Own and close end-to-end sales cycles for direct merchant deals under $1M TPV and vertical SaaS platform opportunities under $10M TPV, from initial outreach through signed agreement and merchant activation.

  • Deliver compelling value propositions and product demonstrations that position PayPal's full commerce and payments capabilities — including Braintree, PayPal Complete Payments (PPCP), PayPal checkout, subscription billing, and agentic commerce solutions — against competitive alternatives.

  • Transition deals exceeding established TPV thresholds to Mid-Market and Enterprise sales representatives with thorough documentation and warm handoffs to ensure continuity.

Pipeline Management & Reporting

  • Maintain a disciplined Salesforce pipeline with accurate deal stages, forecasted TPV, and next steps for all active opportunities and referral passes.

  • Deliver weekly pipeline updates to leadership, including activity metrics, referral pass status, and progress against SSO-based performance targets.

  • Leverage AI-powered research tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity Enterprise) and LinkedIn Sales Navigator to identify, prioritize, and enrich target accounts within PE/VC portfolios.

Events & Market Intelligence

  • Represent PayPal at select startup and technology conferences (e.g., TechCrunch Disrupt, SaaStock) to generate leads and build brand awareness within the high-growth ecosystem.

  • Monitor market trends in fintech, embedded payments, and the PE/VC landscape to identify emerging opportunities and inform team strategy.

What you need to bring:

  • 3–5 years of experience in B2B sales, business development, or partnership development, preferably within fintech, payments, SaaS, or financial services.

  • Demonstrated track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets and generating qualified pipeline in a hunter-oriented sales environment.

  • Familiarity with the payments and commerce technology landscape, including embedded payments, payment facilitation, subscription billing, and merchant acquiring — experience with platforms such as Braintree, Stripe, Adyen, or equivalent is strongly preferred.

  • Working knowledge of or exposure to the private equity and/or venture capital ecosystem, including an understanding of portfolio company structures and investment lifecycle dynamics.

  • Proficiency with Salesforce CRM, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Microsoft Office Suite, and modern AI-powered productivity tools.

  • Strong executive presence with the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders at partner firms, portfolio companies, and internally across PayPal.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a consultative, value-driven approach to sales conversations.

  • Self-starter mentality with the ability to thrive in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment where the playbook is being written in real time.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset — comfort with building new processes, testing new approaches, and iterating based on results.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience at a payments company (PayPal, Stripe, Adyen, Square, Worldpay) or a fintech startup in a sales or BD capacity.

  • Experience selling into or partnering with PE/VC-backed companies or working within an investment firm's portfolio operations team.

  • Understanding of vertical SaaS business models and platform monetization strategies through embedded financial services, subscription billing, and commerce enablement.

  • Familiarity with outbound sales engagement platforms (e.g., Outreach, SalesLoft, Apollo) and intent data tools (e.g., ZoomInfo, 6sense).

  • Experience navigating multi-stakeholder environments with non-linear deal cycles.
