The System Administrator II monitors system hardware, network, and infrastructure software performance to solve problems and suggest improvements. This role is responsible for managing authorized access to system resources and leveraging technical expertise in networking (TCP/IP), server administration, and VOIP systems to ensure high availability and security across the organization’s digital environment.
Provide advice and assistance to users to resolve complex queries and ensure that application and website capabilities are well understood by the business; may manage or provide escalation support for a help-desk team.
Prioritize own workflow and ensure work—particularly regarding network stability and server uptime—is completed to required standards of productivity, quality, and timeliness.
Research and suggest technical developments to improve the quality of the website, portal, software, and supporting infrastructure (including VOIP and on-prem systems) to better meet user needs.
Design and select storage, data center, network, and client/server environments to create solutions in line with industry best practices; serve as a third-line point of escalation for global infrastructure solutions.
Support implementation of security measures, such as firewalls, message encryption, and VPNs, while monitoring performance to notify security experts of potential vulnerabilities or breaches.
Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning; maintain an understanding of relevant technology (specifically evolving TCP/IP and VOIP standards) through ongoing education and specialist media.
Provide initial fault isolation and propose resolutions for approval by senior colleagues to address network or server issues promptly and limit business disruption.
Use the knowledge management system to access specific technical information and contribute to the internal knowledge base for the benefit of the IT team.
Contribute to reviewing existing tasks in own area of work, collecting ideas for infrastructure improvement and closing existing skills gaps within the networking domain.
Required:
Problem Resolution: Monitors, diagnoses, and fixes problems with technology products, specifically focusing on server health and network connectivity.
Technical Troubleshooting: Identifies and resolves technical problems in line with prescribed solution options and industry standards.
Systems Testing: Designs, executes, and reports on systems/service tests to ensure applications and hardware function as specified in requirements.
Implementation Planning: Reviews and evaluates recommendations to develop appropriate plans for software/hardware rollouts.
Infrastructure Management: Installs, sets up, configures, and manages software, environments, and On-Prem VOIP systems.
OS Administration: Expertly sets up and maintains operating systems (Windows/Linux) and server environments.
Security & Compliance: Maintains systems/services and information security, integrity, and continuity.
Networking Proficiency: Deep understanding of TCP/IP networking; able to troubleshoot and manage complex network configurations.
Data Analysis: Determines and analyzes trends from collected system data to assist in compiling reports for leadership decision-making.
Cloud & Virtualization: Proficiently navigates and manages cloud-based infrastructure, including virtual machines, networks, and storage.
Adaptability: Shifts mental mindsets to assess the facts of a current situation (e.g., a critical outage) and makes innovative adjustments to thinking to thrive in any scenario.
Education: Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Level.
Experience: Experienced practitioner able to work unsupervised with a focus on servers and networking (1 to 3 years).
Managerial Experience: Very limited coordination of others or help-desk oversight (0 to 3 months).
