Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Law or advanced law students.

  • Fluency in English (written and spoken), or equivalent to C1 is a must.

  • Advanced or native Spanish, equivalent to C2 is required.

  • Good understanding of contractual clauses (eg. force majeure, limitation of liability, assignability, default and liquidation, waivers, etc.)

  • Good understanding of the International Commercial Terms (Incoterms)

  • Good command of Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet required deadlines without compromising attention to detail.

  • Eager to learn and develop business acumen.

  • Proactive problem-solving and commercial mindset.

  • Good communication skills - Ability to explain in English complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Experience of the movement of commodities via vessel/barge/trucks/rail car/pipeline both domestically and internationally is an asset.

  • Knowledge of the practical application of contracts for the physical movement of bulk / oil and Laytime and Demurrage within a contract is an asset.

Key Responsibilities

Preparing and reviewing commercial contracts and related documents to ensure legal compliance and risk mitigation.

Managing contractual amendments, including evaluation of commercial terms, operational provisions, payment structures, laytime/demurrage clauses, and legal requirements.
Collaborating with traders, operators and cross-functional teams to identify transaction risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
Overseeing contract lifecycle management from initial booking through execution ensuring timely countersignature and proper documentation.

Key Relationships

The key relationships for this role include traders, logistics operators, trade finance officers, and personnel responsible for laytime and demurrage claims. Trafigura’s Contracts department handles contractual documentation for storage, purchase and sale transactions cross commodities worldwide. It reviews contracts for accuracy, analyzes obligations and liabilities, recommends and drafts contract provisions and amendments and coordinates with other teams to ensure all transactions meet the company guidelines.
