About the Role

We are seeking a high-caliber Operations Manager to lead our Carrier Risk Investigation program and team. In the fast-paced world of logistics brokerage, maintaining the integrity of our marketplace is paramount. You will be responsible for a high-visibility team tasked with vetting new carriers and continuously monitoring existing partners for signals of fraud, identity theft, etc.

This isn't just a "maintenance" role; we need a strategic operator who can scale a program/ team, refine complex workflows, and act as a final line of defense for our platform’s reputation.

You will partner closely with the Onboarding and Carrier Support team in Monterrey, MX, to streamline carrier vetting processes. Additionally, you will coordinate with a second Monterrey-based team dedicated to after-hours and weekend investigations, ensuring seamless operational continuity and high-quality support across all shifts.

What the Candidate Will Do

1. People Leadership & Talent Development

• Directly manage and mentor a team of Carrier Risk Investigators, fostering a culture of high performance and professional growth.
• Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and calibration sessions to ensure consistent decision-making across the team.
• Develop training modules on the latest fraud trends, digital forensics, and investigative techniques.

2. Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement

• Workflow Optimization: Evaluate current vetting processes to identify bottlenecks and implement automation or lean methodologies to increase throughput without compromising security.
• KPI Management: Define and track key metrics
• Root Cause Analysis: Lead "post-mortem" reviews on sophisticated fraud incidents to close gaps in the vetting funnel.

3. Strategic Risk Oversight

• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to influence the development of internal risk-scoring algorithms.
• Stay ahead of industry trends, including cargo theft rings, "ghost" carriers, and sophisticated business identity compromise.
• Act as the primary point of escalation for high-stakes carrier disputes or urgent fraud investigations.

4. Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with Carrier Sales leadership to balance "frictionless" onboarding with rigorous compliance and fraud standards.
• Collaborate with Sales and Account Management teams on internal education and attend customer meetings and lead conversations regarding compliance and fraud
• Partner closely with the Onboarding and Carrier Support team in Monterrey, MX, to refine and execute carrier vetting processes.
• Work with our dedicated After-Hours Investigations team in Monterrey to ensure seamless coverage during weekends and late-night shifts.

5. Strategic Operations & Project Management

• Work with broader operations teams on efficiency strategies and continuous process improvements to streamline carrier lifecycle management.
• Support the integration and rollout of various organizational initiatives, ensuring the Risk team is aligned with company-wide changes.
• Lead and contribute to special projects aimed at enhancing platform security and operational scale.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the evolving needs of the logistics marketplace.

Basic Qualifications

• Experience: 5+ years in freight or logistics, including at least 2 years in a management or supervisory role.
• Leadership: Proven ability to lead people and manage team operations effectively.
• Communication: Strong written and verbal skills, with the confidence to communicate clearly with executive leadership.
• Multitasking: Ability to balance daily team management with the needs of internal and external stakeholders.
• Flexibility: Must be able to work a hybrid schedule out of our Chicago office and work outside standard hours when necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree strongly preferred
• Microsoft and Google Suite Experience
• Project Management Experience
• Experience working with both off-shore and near-shore teams

Illinois: The target salary for this position is between $79,000-97,000
