We are seeking a Supervising Mechanical Engineer to join our team in  Chicago, IL. Working in any of three offices, you will contribute to the design of major projects from various markets and from around the world.

Job Responsibilities

As a Supervising Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for providing trade specific system design: layout (utilizing both CAD and REVIT); calculations (utilizing appropriate software); and other related design services including coordination with the designs of other trades (architectural and engineering / internal and external) under the guidance of more senior technical staff.  Must take ownership of the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of the work assigned to you.  Individuals in this position must demonstrate the ability to progress from basic design work assignments to more complicated and involved projects working in conjunction with a technical team.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Assists Technical Manager and Chief Engineer in business unit technical training and staff mentoring.
  • Coordinates and assigns various projects to be performed by the engineering team (i.e., system design and project engineering).
  • Establishes design standards, specifications, and criteria for projects.
  • Leaders and supervises staff members as they perform their tasks.
  • Manages Construction Administrative duties, such as field reports, responses to RFIs, processing Bulletins and Addenda, etc. (PM) - Coordinates with accounting to prepare monthly project invoices. Monitors project accounts receivable and contacts the client as needed to expedite payment.
  • Monitors all correspondence between staff, clients, contractors, Owners, etc.
  • Participates in and contributes to business unit TLC.
  • Participates in budgeting, scheduling, and staff management.
  • Prepares proposals and administers project contracts between SHG and the client including Add Service Agreements.
  • Supervises and leads coordination meetings.
  • Supervises preparation of reports and analysis of system options and building conditions

Job Requirements

Successful candidates for the Supervising Mechanical Engineer role should have the ability to use REVIT for system layout and spatial coordination of the production of detailed drawings. Someone who exhibits a basic understanding of the practical application of LEED principles to our building designs would be a good fit for this dynamic role. History of working with projects such as Aviation, Federal, Healthcare, Commercial, and Mission Critical.

Additional requirements include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an Accredited Institution
  • Minimum of 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in the MEP field
  • LEED accreditation, preferred
  • Latest version of AutoCAD MEP and REVIT required
  • Proficient in design and calculation software; MS Excel and Word
  • Possesses a basic understanding of proper system selection
  • Exhibits a thorough understanding of applicable codes
  • Project management experience
  • PE license required.

The salary range listed below is for this particular job posting.  Actual pay range for candidates will be commensurate with candidate’s experience, skillsets and competencies and may differ based on the cost of labor in their particular location.
