Scope of work

This position is an integral part of hospital operations related to bed planning, patient throughput and capacity management. The Mission Control Coordinator has an organization-wide view of patients coming into, moving throughout, and out of the system and works closely with nursing and physicians to ensure timely and coordinated movement of patients. This role acts as a liaison between the Mission Control team, as well as other departments by removing barriers to patient flow while increasing bed utilization.

  • Oversight of the day-to-day operations of Mission Control. Provide exceptional customer service and maintain relationships with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Analyze real-time capacity and throughput metrics, identify barriers to meeting timely placement and resolve patient flow issues as they arise. Engage with appropriate department leaders to escalate and resolve concerns with patient flow.
  • Direct and control patient flow activities into, within and out of Spectrum Health facilities and ensures effective utilization of resources. Evaluate, develop, and implement strategies to maximize system capacity management and throughput.
  • Acts as an escalation path for Mission Control functions and needs. Offers support and guidance to team members within the Mission Control team.
  • Engages in quality improvement reviews to meet departmental and organizational metrics or initiatives

Qualifications

  • Required Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing
  • 3 years of relevant experience Nursing experience within a hospital setting including but not limited to inpatient adult and pediatrics, acute care or critical care, emergency/urgent care Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required Or
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 90 Days required
