JOB SUMMARY 

This position supervises Campus Safety, and Emergency Management.  Has operational responsibility for the management, development, daily leadership, includes financial resources, including wage and overtime budgets; scheduling, training, and service-based performance; the appropriate and timely communication of safety issues to the campus and surrounding communities. A strong emphasis is placed on the need for responsiveness, collaboration, reliability, predictability, and professionalism in performing the duties and responsibilities of this position. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Streamline each unit to create an efficient, customer service based, quality service experience. 

  • Create and manage a robust and user-friendly experience for accessing university operations functions and resources. 

  • Serve as a member of the Campus Incident Reporting Team along with other members of the University community. 

  • Lead, plan and manage the Threat Assessment Team. 

  • Maintain all quality and professional standards, ensure all systems operate smoothly and align with Marymount’s quality standards. 

  • Assures all department training standards are met and up to date. 

  • Maintains all department logs and ensures University policies and procedures are followed. 

  • Prepares, presents, and submits all required internal and external reporting on campus safety, including but not limited to Cleary Act reporting. 

  • Works to proactively protect the campus community through the prevention of crimes. 

  • Educates, trains, and helps to ensure enforcement of all University rules, regulations and policies as well as local, state and federal laws. 

  • Manages weekly shift schedules to meet the needs of the university, as well as those of the employee, through the effective, efficient, and equitable scheduling of overtime. 

  • Keeps campus safety staff informed, engaged, and motivated through the use of scheduled and ad hoc informational meetings 

  • Responsible for ensuring that all officers receive timely and appropriate training in areas such as DCJS, report writing, CCTV, LiveSafe, and department policies and protocols. 

  • Manages the incident reporting system and is responsible for updating and classifying daily crime statistics; brings trends to the attention of the AVP for Campus Auxiliary Services; and makes timely recommendations on how small changes could reduce campus crimes. 

  • Responsible for assigning investigations to officers and reviewing all follow ups in a timely manner. 

  • Responsible for the upkeep, operation, and timely replacement of CCTV camera systems across all campuses, including making recommendations, sourcing and coordinating the installation of new cameras as needed. 

  • Manages and trains others on ID Access Services software, as well as other access and security software, including operating, maintaining, and planning for the timely replacement of all systems 

  • Available to respond to emergencies. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS 

Education                                        

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience 

Experience                                         

  • 1 year of experience working in a supervisory position at a university law enforcement or security department. 

  • Experience in integrating security systems, communication and notification, access control and incident reports. 

  • Experience with Cleary Act, Title IX, FERPA and HIPPA 

  • Experience managing costs and budget. 

Knowledge and Abilities 

  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge of MS Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet. 

  • Fully knowledgeable of all campus buildings, departments, functions and grounds 

  • Excellent communication skills, as well as, exceptional interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to make critical safety decisions independently  

  • Ability to lead, advocate for, and motivate a diverse workforce. 

  • Strong ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. 

  • Ability to exercise a high degree of independent judgment in the establishment, interpretation, application, and enforcement of all rules, regulations, guidelines and policies. 

  • Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and diverse demands are involved 
     

Licenses or Certifications             

CPR is a plus 

Valid Driver’s License 
 

Financial Responsibility                

Responsible for departmental budget stewardship and reporting. 
 

Supervision                                       

Supervise employees in campus safety, parking and transportation and emergency management. 
 

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS 

Must be able to walk the campus many times during one’s shift; ability to work in extreme conditions. 

May be required to work long or unusual hours, often without notice, when responding to emergencies.
