We are looking for a Pressurized Rover Engineer (Project Engineer -Systems Engineering). This position will support the EVA and Human Surface Mobility Program’s (EHP) Pressurized Rover (PR) Project team – part of the Artemis portfolio at the NASA Johnson Space Center. As part of this team, you will serve as a project engineer in the PR Systems Engineering and Integration (SEI) team, where you will focus on the PR crew compartment and associated interfaces.

Work Model

This is a full-time position based at Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX, offering a 100% onsite work model, option for Hybrid that combines 4-5 regular onsite workdays and remote flexibility as the business needs allow. 

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Support the PR Project SEI office at NASA Johnson Space Center, which is responsible for the definition, development, and implementation of the pressurized rover in support of the Artemis architecture 
  • Coordinate with International Partner JAXA counterparts regarding PR cabin crew compartment design requirements and recommendations 
  • Generate CAD models of PR cabin and chassis design options during working sessions and TIMs with project management and international partner leads 
  • Lead discussions, analyses, and trade studies regarding crew-specific PR tasks, including but not limited to logistics resupply, maintenance, driving, and EVA 
  • Lead planning, coordination, execution, and reporting of PR project human-in-the-loop (HITL) testing related to PR design concepts 
  • Conduct CRs (external documents routed to LTV for review/comment) related to system specifications documents and work with the SE technical coordinators to ensure alignment with project needs 
  • Assist with project lifecycle reviews (generated slide content, present as needed) and develop project SEI documents as needed 

What You Need to be Successful - Project Engineer- Systems Engineering

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or another related STEM discipline
  • At least 8 years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in systems engineering, technical interfaces, NASA program lifecycle 
  • Space architecture background with NASA mobility systems, human factors, and robotics experience 
  • Expertise using CAD software (Rhino or Solidworks) to generate notional PR models 
  • Experience with the NASA program life cycle and system engineering processes, including analysis cycles 
  • Experience planning and executing HITL tests both in the lab and in the field 
  • Ability to effectively utilize oral and written communication to express technical concepts and recommendations to personnel at all technical and managerial levels 
  • Capability to work in a quick-paced, small core team that leads technical discussions across a large technical community and influences teams across the NASA enterprise 
  • Initiative and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, including with international partners 
  • Excellent teaming and leadership skills with an ability to multi-task across various issues/disciplines simultaneously 
  • Willing to travel occasionally to work location or customer site, domestically or internationally, approx. 5%
  • This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

  • More than 8 years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in systems engineering, technical interfaces, NASA program lifecycle
