Primary Function

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Packaging Engineer to join our 3PL Logistics Operations team. The Packaging Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing packaging solutions tailored to the needs of our customer’s products while ensuring efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability within a fast paced, complex, high volume environment.

Essential Duties

  • Collaborate with customers and internal stakeholders to understand product requirements and develop packaging solutions that meet their specific needs and objectives.
  • Design and develop packaging solutions for a wide range of products handled within the 3PL warehouses, considering factors such as product fragility, size, weight, safety, and transportation requirements.
  • Conduct packaging feasibility studies and cost analyses to determine the most suitable materials, designs, and processes for packaging products within the 3PL environment.
  • Evaluate and select packaging materials and suppliers based on factors such as cost, quality, availability, and environmental impact, ensuring compliance with client requirements and industry standards.
  • Responsible for ensuring that packaging materials are environmentally sustainable and comply with regulations.
  • Identifying areas for improvement in packaging solutions.
  • Other duties as assigned by leadership.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Familiarity with sustainability principles and practices in packaging, including recyclability, composability, and life cycle assessment, and their implications for the logistics operations.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex packaging requirements and develop practical solutions.
  • Strong project management skills, including planning, execution, and documentation, to drive successful packaging initiatives.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software for creating packaging designs and prototypes, with knowledge of warehouse layout and storage systems.
  • Knowledge of packaging testing methods and standards relevant to warehouse operations, such as ISTA, ASTM, and ISO.
  • Creativity, including the ability to develop innovative packaging solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in packaging design and development within a logistics environment.
  • Strong understanding of packaging materials, including corrugated cardboard, plastics, foams, and cushioning materials, and their applications in a warehouse setting.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with clients, internal teams, and external suppliers to achieve common goals.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced warehousing environment.
