In this fast-paced role, you will be an integral member of the Mine Mobile QA Inspectors at our Base Plant location.

The QA Mechanical Inspector will apply operational discipline behaviors to help sustain the mobile equipment fleet reliability through regular inspections, technical reporting and analysis. This position is a 70/30 field/office role with a focus on technical application of practical skills and experience. There is a significant reliance on collaborating with others to both surface and solve problems as well as develop improvement initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

  • A journeyman trade ticket , or a technologist diploma in Welding/Materials/Mechanical Engineering Technology, or experience and certification in Non-Destructive examination.

  • Five years of related Quality Assurance (QA) experience.

  • Previous In-Service Inspection experience on Mining Mobile Fleet.

  • Mobile equipment experience (Shovels, Trucks and Support Equipment).

  • Ability to drive in active mine area.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Office, Excel, Power Point and Access).

  • Proficient with SAP (creating notifications, viewing work orders, tracking component hours and uploading/ viewing work history, running reports for historical data) and GE APM.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to present ideas and influence multiple audiences.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills and highly resourceful.

  • Strong business decision making and ability to connect technical issues to business performance.

  • High degree of networking/collaborative skill – able to relate in all disciplines/functions and provide a balanced perspective.

Key Accountabilities

  • Adhere to all Suncor safety standards and policies as well as those set out by the E&R and Mine Mobile Maintenance organizations.

  • Assist in identifying top loss areas within but not limited to Mine Mobile Reliability and help create plans to eliminate or reduce losses.

  • Perform mechanical integrity inspections on over 60 separate components at regular intervals during maintenance services and mobile equipment outages.

  • Maintain data sets for all measured data in a central database.

  • Complete a detailed inspection report for all deficiencies found during regular and non-routine inspections. Some reports may be submitted for information and data tracking purposes only.

  • Effectively communicate inspection results through detailed reporting, emails and verbal communication in a timely manner so issues can be addressed as quickly as possible.

  • Submit work notifications in SAP with Scope Of Work and parts for all deficiencies noted in the field along with Risk Based Work Selection data. (probability/ consequence of failure and “last acceptable completion date”).

  • Complete and submit month end stewardship reports for individual inspector posts with information on any inspections that did not get completed each month as per the previous months stewardship report.

  • Interface with planning, engineering, maintenance & vendors and work collaboratively to resolve mechanical mobile equipment issues as quickly and effectively as possible.

Location & other key details

  • You will work out of our Base Plant site in Fort McMurray, Alberta

  • The shift schedule is a 7 days on / 7 days off rotation (7 days on,  7 days off, 7 nights on, 7 days off 12-hour shifts) 

  • This position is safety sensitive

  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support may be provided.
