Job Summary :
To provide nursing care that is patient and family centered in an environment that exemplifies best practice and customer service; fosters relationship based care; and maintains the integrity of professional nursing standards. Nursing care guidelines are based on the ANA Code of Ethics (1), Indiana Nurse Practice Act (2), Nursing Process, and regulatory agency standards by which the RN provides patient care and shared leadership for the unit.Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Fiscal Responsibility
a. Uses resources and supplies efficiently; promoting cost saving and effective use of budget allocation.
b. Manages time productively in the completion of duties and promotes cost saving through delegating assignments and use of proactive scheduling based on acuity and census.
c. Attends product and practice change education and applies such to promote non-salary cost saving.
2. Quality
a. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities including, but not limited to, meaningful use, value based purchasing, application of regulatory measures, work redesign and nurse sensitive indicators.
b. Demonstrates critical thinking, ability to multitask, and provide complete documentation per unit and Hospital standards including critical situations and events.
c. Practices accountably in accordance with the nursing process to provide optimum care, collaborate with the team, streamline processes, and elevate the patient experience.
d. Applies evidence-based practice, maintaining knowledge of policy and
standards of care. Makes appropriate patient care assignments based on nurse expertise, patient acuity and technical needs.
3. Community Service and Patient Satisfaction
a. Represents the Hospital positively in provision of service to the community independently and at Hospital sponsored or community events.
b. Participate actively in achievement of patient satisfaction through established Hospital practices of patient rounding, timely response to patient needs, service recovery, and displaying professionalism in actions.
c. Maintains a therapeutic environment through noise reduction, appropriate use of electronic devices in patient care areas, and providing support and building relationships with healthcare students and their programs.
4. Patient Safety
a. Incorporates safe patient care practices into daily routines including, but not limited to, fall prevention, safe patient mobilization, medication
administration, and patient identification prior to care.
b. Utilizes the event management system; reports near misses and participates in proactive processes to reduce error.
c. Applies the principles of Just Culture, HIPPA, national safety standards and social media policy.
5. Professional Growth
a. Demonstrates proficiency in charge RN role, mentoring, precepting, and provision of leadership in the department and Hospital.
b. Maintains licensure and actively seeks opportunity for growth in such areas as certification, Hospital clinical advancement programs, advanced degree, and nursing shared leadership and council opportunities.
c. Attends educational offerings, maintains awareness of current practice standards, and tracks professional accomplishments and attendance.
6. Customer Service
a. Provides care based on Relationship Based Care and unit based nursing care model, incorporating holistic care for diverse populations and promoting interdepartmental collegial relationships.
b. Meets Hospital identified customer service standards; addresses ethical issues, and promotes commitment to co-workers.
c. Exhibits excellent guest relations to patients, visitors, physicians and coworkers; shows courtesy, compassion and respect; conforms to Service Excellence requirements. This position requires communication and
interaction with the public, co-workers, administrators, contacts from other hospitals, schools and/or other departments.

Education and Experience Required:
1. Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing; or
2. If a graduate from a nursing school that is not accredited, a minimum of five years of acute care nursing experience is required to be considered; or an advanced degree from an accredited school;
3. Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree, (BSN), preferred or required within five years from date of hire (MSN enrollment would be accepted in place of BSN for those enrolling in an accelerated program).
4. Area specific required education may be obtained upon hire and is to be maintained, e.g. ACLS, BLS, PALS, specialty certification, etc.
Mandatory Licensure/Certifications:
1. Current licensure by the Indiana State Board of Nurses’ Registration and Nursing Education as an active Registered Nurse.
