JOB SUMMARY:
The Genetic Doctor will be responsible for providing comprehensive genetic services to patients, including clinical evaluation, genetic testing, counseling, and management. You will play a crucial role in helping patients and families understand their genetic risks, make informed decisions about their health, and navigate the complexities of genetic conditions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Evaluation and Counseling:
Conduct thorough medical history and family history assessments.
Perform physical examinations and order appropriate genetic tests.
Analyze and interpret genetic test results.
Provide clear and compassionate counseling to patients and families regarding their genetic risks, diagnosis, and management options.
Develop personalized treatment plans and monitor patient progress.
Offer guidance on family planning, reproductive options, and prenatal screening.
Collaboration:
Collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and genetic counselors, to provide holistic patient care.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions.
Refer patients to other specialists as needed.
Administrative Tasks:
Maintain accurate and detailed medical records.
Prepare reports and documentation for insurance companies and other stakeholders.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Professionalism and Ethical Conduct:
Adhere to ethical guidelines and best practices in medical genetics.
Maintain patient confidentiality and respect for patient privacy.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
MD degree or equivalent.
Board certification in Medical Genetics or completion of a fellowship in Medical Genetics.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in medical genetics.
Strong understanding of genetic counseling techniques and principles.
Skills and Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of genetics, genomics, and genetic testing methodologies.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain complex medical information clearly and empathetically.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficient in using electronic health records (EHR) and other relevant software (if any).
