Job Purpose

The Assistant Manager will support the Integrated Marketing Team in developing and implementing marketing and publicity plans to promote Disney’s franchises, brands, and studio’s theatrical releases.

At the Walt Disney Company, storytelling drives everything we do. The principal role of the Assistant Manager is to design and implement content, music, and publicity collaborations for our franchises, brands and theatrical titles in China, and develop the right materials and communication angles that maximizes such collaboration’s exposure while cultivating our relationships with media/KOL, engaging our key target audience and boosting brand awareness.

The target is to strengthen connection with and understanding of the local audience and media landscape, while continuously building the brand awareness and affinity of Disney franchises and brands in China and maximizing the box office performance of each theatrical release.
 

This requires working closely with agencies and vendors, as well as Disney business units and other corporate functions, while constantly keeping abreast of the market landscape, trends, and development. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and execute special content collaborations (including but are not limited to film festivals, franchise content collaboration, industry summits, sporting events etc.).
    • proactively seek collaboration opportunities with local content producers & events by leveraging Disney’s unparalleled storytelling heritage
    • consolidate XLOB needs and design collaboration approaches and communication plans that creates company-wide business benefits
    • Coordinate communication, scheduling, and logistics for such collaborations and events

  • Develop local music collaboration strategy, maximize XLOB benefits throughout multiple channels and touch points
    • Manage talent relationships and pitching processes
    • Spearhead internal and external music clearances and approvals in collaboration with DMG partners
    • Consolidate XLOB requests and ensure creative and strategic alignment
    • Coordinate communication, scheduling, and logistics for talent-related events and activations
    • Monitor and evaluate campaign impact of talent collaborations to inform future campaign strategies
       
  • Maximize the presence of franchises, brands and theatrical tiles on various media channels:
    • Collaborate with marketing team to plan big scale events including talent tour, multi-city events, local premieres and other media facing activities
    • Develop media relations strategy, seeking high-level placement / co-op in print, broadcast and social media
    • Develop media press kit for both traditional and social media to consistently engage audience throughout promotion windows
    • Cultivate and maintain relationships with media and influential professionals
    • Monitor and evaluate campaign impact across press and influencer collaborations to continuously enhance audience engagement and effectiveness

  • Implement and maintain long-term publicity strategies for Disney’s franchises and brands
    • Develop annual media engagement plans for franchises, brands, and theatrical releases and implement key activations
    • Work with the US headquarter to conduct media engagements and cultivate long-term relationships with key press and influencers
    • Support the development of brand assets and marketing materials (print and av) for our brands and titles.
    • Lead regular social listening and sentiment efforts and generate insight reports to help inform decision making and global reporting

  • Day-to-day management and coordination with agencies and vendors to ensure timely and satisfactory delivery of work.
    • Liaise with agencies/vendors/creative and production teams to develop detailed creative solutions and implement the event strategies and plans efficiently and effectively.
  • Establish and maintain excellent relationships with strategic partners internally (Consumer products, Shanghai Disney Resort, Disney Media Distribution, Government Affairs and National Geographic) and maximize synergy opportunities
    • Prepare presentations to management team, Business Units, or other functional teams as required

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a leading university, local or foreign. Marketing/Advertising Management or Film Related degree a plus but not a must.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ work experience in marketing and publicity for leading multi-national company, 4A ad agency or entertainment related company
  • Strong experience in handling, planning and overseeing the execution of media & influencer engagement;
  • Experience in pitching, handling and managing local music talent and producers;
  • Experience in participation and implementation of marketing campaigns including online activation, media engagement, creative production, research and communications planning. 

Knowledge:

  • Strong network and understanding of local media and influencer dynamics and trends;
  • Robust understanding of the local entertainment ecosystems and digital platform mechanisms;
  • Genuine passion for the film industry and marketing field work: candidate must be willing to roll up his/her sleeves and go above and beyond the call of duty when the job calls for it.

  • Fluent spoken and written English and Mandarin
  • Well developed computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.; Mac knowledge a plus not a must)
