The Senior Payments Analyst - International is a critical role supporting and assisting both key Business and Technology stakeholders.  It is responsible for managing problem resolution, system changes and supporting related projects to ensure the International and High Value Payments infrastructure is conducive to efficient and timely processing to meet the Banks compliance requirements.

What are the five day-to-day tasks the person will complete?

  • Management of BNZ's sanctions lists and rules.
  • Focus on list enhancements to reduce the overall sanctions alert rate.
  • Work closely with our Financial Crime Risk team to ensure that any proposed list changes or enhancements are within our risk appetite.
  • Representing Operational Excellence as part of Incident Resolution.
  • Acting as a vital link between BNZ Technology and Operational Excellence across our Sanctions screening systems.

What is the tīma culture and environment like?

Sanctions Operations is about working together to ensure customer payments get where they need to be. Challenging one another to drive improvements for customers, colleagues, and the bank. And having fun while we do it.

What projects / mahi will the candidate be working on now and into the next year?

Continuous improvement, Sanctions screening systems upgrades and a real focus on false positive alert reduction.

What is your management style?

Relaxed. I trust my tīma to get their jobs done and help me drive the business forward, I am here to support problem solving, prioritisation and provide clarity at all times when required.

What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity?

Sanctions Operations is an area of constant change, new systems, new payment formats, new compliance, and regulatory requirements. The right candidate has an opportunity to stamp their mark in a way that positively impacts New Zealanders every day.

What is the most challenging thing about this opportunity?

There is a lot to learn about sanctions and the systems that support the team in a good way.

What will success look like for the candidate in this role?

A good knowledge of BNZs payments flows, policies, screening applications and the operational processes these support. Using that knowledge to influence and drive change in a positive way for customers and colleagues.

What specific skills are required to be successful?

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel especially, Access ideally).
  • Quick to pick up new systems.
  • Proven tech trouble shooter.
  • SQL queries.

What attributes will this person display in order to be successful in this role?
