Job Summary

Facilitates and coordinates organ procurement at local and remote hospitals 24/7.

Essential Functions

  • Conducts clinical assessment of Organ Donor from checklist. Receives and reviews deceased organ donors and referrals via UNOS DonorNet and triages organ donor criteria for donation according to the programmatic inclusion/exclusion criteria.
  • Works with Transplant Administration regarding billing for supplies, donor fess, and transportation. Orders and maintains all necessary supplies related to the organ recovery process.
  • Responsible for coordination of safe air and transport of Spectrum Health Surgeons and staff and is responsible for critical communications during organ offers, organ donor management, surgical recovery and organ arrival at Spectrum Health operating rooms.
  • Coordinates and assists with fly outs and fly backs.
  • Coordinates and assists in the surgical recovery, preservation, and packaging of organs and specimens in conjunction with transplant surgeons.
  • Coordinates and assists with travel arrangements for transplant team, organs for transplant and specimens to laboratories.
  • Maintains sterile supplies and donor equipment bags.

Qualifications

  • Required Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in nursing; or graduate of an accredited Surgical Assistant program, Surgical Technologist program, approved Paramedic program, board-approved RNFA
  • 2 years of relevant experience Within the relevant industry; organ donation or organ transplant. Required
  • CRT-Surgical Assistant, Certified (CSA) - NBSTSA National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Upon Hire required Or
  • CRT-Surgical Technologist, Certified (CST) - AST Association of Surgical Technologist Upon Hire required Or
  • CRT-Surgical Technologist, Certified (CST) - NBSTSA National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Upon Hire required Or
  • LIC-Registered Nurse (RN) - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required Or
  • CRT-RN First Assist, Certified (CRNFA) - AORN Association of perioOperative Registered Nurses Upon Hire required Or
  • CRT-RN First Assist, Certified (CRNFA) - NASC National Assistant at Surgery Certification Upon Hire required Or
  • LIC-Paramedic License - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required
  • CRT-Transplant Preservationist, Certified (CTP) - UNKNOWN Unknown Upon Hire preferred
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association Upon Hire required Or
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross Upon Hire required
  • CRT-Adv Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - AHA American Heart Association Upon Hire preferred
  • Ideal candidate will possess Transplant or Donation experience
  • This position entails an Every Other Weekend Rotation and 24-Hour Call Coverage
