Circ’s flexible technology is powering the clean closet and helping the fashion industry make monumental strides toward a truly circular eco-economy.

We’ve pioneered a technology that can recycle polycotton — what the majority of our clothes are made of — into reusable fibers. In essence: our process takes textile waste and turns it into materials that your most beloved fashion labels can use for tomorrow’s clothes.

Circ is seeking a Controller to oversee a range of accounting activities, ensuring accurate and timely reporting in compliance with GAAP, corporate policies, and external audit requirements. This role involves managing accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, supervising the monthly closing process, and preparing reconciliations to support Circ’s financial statements. We are looking for a detail-oriented individual who embodies our core values and thrives in a dynamic, ever-changing environment.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role will manage external accounting partners and contribute significantly to the company’s bookkeeping processes, focusing on reporting, auditing, regulatory and tax filings, and insurance management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the monthly financial close process, reviewing journal entries and account balance reconciliations.
  • Maintain hierarchy and scalability in chart of accounts, ensuring accuracy in general ledger and financial statements.
  • Manage a small internal team and external vendors, providing leadership, mentorship, and development opportunities.
  • Supervise external accounting partners to ensure fulfillment of duties.
  • Collaborate with external auditors to ensure audit readiness and compliance.
  • Assist in compiling information for tax returns and regulatory filings.
  • Manage procurement and maintenance of insurance coverage.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and operational strategies; train staff on policies and review process/system changes.
  • Oversee Circ’s accounting systems; lead new system implementations to enhance financial reporting.
  • Continuously improve system efficiency and business practices to reduce reporting time and errors.

Qualifications and Role Requirements

Candidate to be based in U.S. Eastern or Central Time Zone

Experience:

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in high-growth environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or Finance preferred; CPA certification highly desirable.
  • Experience managing payroll and streamlining accounting processes.
  • Proven ability to identify and implement improvements in accounting operations.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, banking processes, and internal controls.
  • Familiarity with International Financial Reporting Standards is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, QuickBooks, Bill, Expensify, and PO Systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and travel to East Coast offices as needed.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach across all organizational levels.
