We are seeking backend engineers to join our Payments & Entitlements team! Our team is responsible for building and maintaining the systems that power subscriptions and purchases across iOS, Android, and web platforms. From integrating with external vendors to building a seamless and secure checkout experience, we enable millions of users to access and enjoy premium features on SoundCloud.

In addition to this, our team contributes to experimentation and development of new payment-related initiatives aimed at enhancing the way users interact with and access SoundCloud’s offerings. This is an exciting opportunity to shape future payment experiences through innovative projects.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend systems for subscription-related purchases and transactions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create a seamless checkout experience.
  • Build integrations with third-party vendors using APIs and webhooks.
  • Experiment with and implement new payment-related ideas and projects.
  • Enhance platform capabilities by designing scalable, maintainable, and performant systems.
  • Ensure platform reliability through modern monitoring, alerting, and on-call rotation practices.
  • Continuously improve infrastructure and tools to support better development and deployment practices.
  • Keep our tech stack up to date by leveraging modern technologies and best practices.
  • Continuously learn and share knowledge of industry best practices on our tech stack.

What We're Looking For

  • This is a mid-level role, ideal for candidates with a solid foundation in backend development and a proven ability to work independently on complex projects while collaborating with a team.
  • Experience developing robust backend systems using one or more of the languages: Go, Ruby.
  • Proficiency in building and integrating Rest APIs, and webhooks.
  • Strong knowledge of databases, particularly MySQL, and experience designing efficient schemas.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure using GCP, AWS, K8s
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to delivering high-quality products.
  • Prior experience with monitoring and alerting systems, and a willingness to participate in on-call rotations.
  • Effective at collaborating with technical and non-technical team members.

Bonus Points

  • Familiarity with subscription systems or e-commerce platforms.
  • Experience working with GraphQL APIs.
  • An understanding of modern checkout and payment experiences.
  • Keen interest in a wide variety of engineering topics like infrastructure and cloud management, analytics (we use BigQuery)
