What You Will Do:
We are currently searching for Ultrasound Sonographer to perform highly specialized, complex diagnostic and vascular

ultrasound examinations within the Radiology Department of the NIH Clinical Center. The candidate will locate and record internal elements of the body, display their position, and function, and identify any anomalies indicative of disease, injury, or other medically significant condition as well as explain the ultrasound process to patient. The candidate will use their knowledge and skills to optimally position the patient throughout the study achieving the best images, select desired technical factors, and ensure documentation of a thorough examination. They will adjust and adapt equipment and procedures to accommodate patients while conduct ultrasound exams. Additionally, the candidate will perform operator preventive maintenance and care of equipment.  This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Bethesda, MD.  

  • Perform diagnostic procedures using ultrasound equipment, archive imagery and document results.
  • Complete ultrasound worksheets and appropriate study-related documentation that explain test findings to the referring physician.
  • Routinely assess the safety and effectiveness of the equipment and documents findings, preparing recommendations for modifications as necessary.
  • Educate subjects and family members on testing procedures, the equipment, and the exam to ensure understanding and cooperation.
  • Assess testing and medical procedure estimates and recommend necessary increases to equipment, facilities, or maintenance services.
  • Liaison with other technicians, researchers and medical staff regarding ultrasound practices and procedures and scheduling testing.


What You Will Need:

  • Holds an active American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification.
  • Is in good standing with ARDMS (not on Compliance Sanction list).
  • At least THREE (3) years of experience with technical sonography skills relevant to general and vascular ultrasound.

The annual salary range for this position is $57,300.00-$85,900.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
