Job Description Summary:

Overview

Responsible for assisting the Quality Outcomes Manager with medical staff quality improvement activities: outcome measurements, knowledge of relationships between process and outcomes, and outcome indicators relating to DRG’s. Must be able to perform data collection pertinent to patient outcomes and rights and medical staff rights and ethics. Must have an understanding of the continuity of care, reimbursement issues, clinical path development, and variation analysis. Under general direction, gathers and assembles data for the medical staff. Prepares and presents findings to the medical staff departments and committees. Represents the Medical Affairs Division at medical staff meetings. Works well independently and appropriately prioritizes job duties. Minimum of Associate Degree in Nursing or Allied Health Field required BSN preferred. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse or Allied Health Professional. Minimum of 3 years experience in the area of clinical expertise. Under direct supervision of the Quality Outcomes Manager, the Quality Outcomes Specialist will be responsible for assigned shifts, five days a week. The Quality Outcomes Specialist works closely with the Quality Outcomes Manager to meet the overall objectives and needs of the Quality Outcomes Improvement Department. The employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.

Responsibilities

Attends numerous medical staff meetings as assigned.
Establishes a system for identifying the caseload of patients to be reviewed.
Gathers data from various sources for the quality of patient care review, then enters into the database.
Keeps Midas data current, complete, and accurate in order to reach meeting deadlines.
Assemble, summarize and present quality information data at medical staff meetings.
Information presented in addition to quality improvement data includes, but is not limited to risk management, utilization review, core measure data, and infection control.
Advises appropriate parties of recommended corrective action generated from the medical staff departmental meeting.
Informs the Quality Outcomes Manager/Quality Outcomes Director/Medical Director of quality activities and any opportunities for improvement discussed in medical staff meetings in their absence.
Prepares special reports.
Designs, completes and presents studies as requested.
Reviews individual charts as requested by the Quality Outcomes Manager, Director, Risk Management, Medical Director, COO or CEO.
Prepares information for outside reviews, fair hearings, and other activities as deemed necessary for the improvement of quality for the medical staff.
Informs the Director and Quality Outcomes Manager of quality activities and any opportunities for improvement discussed in medical staff meetings in their absence.
Prepares profiles for medical staff.
Coordinates peer review activities for the medical staff.
Assists in orienting new personnel in quality outcomes processes.
Participates in and acts as a leader of Quality Plus teams when requested.
Participates in the Institute for Healthcare Improvement activities.
Completes continuing education for improvement of job performance.
Contributes to a positive work climate and overall team effort of the department and hospital, performs any related responsibility as required or directed and greets guests in accordance with our Guest Excellence principles.
Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
 

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Minimum of Associate Degree in Nursing or Allied Health Field required BSN preferred. Minimum of 3 years experience in the area of clinical expertise.  
LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse or Allied Health Professional. AHA Basic Cardiac Life Support recommended.  
EXPERIENCE: Knowledge of accepted clinical procedures as acquired through 3 years of clinical experience. Knowledge of the assessment of data, planning, and coordination of care that will impact the fiscal management of patient care as acquired through on the job training. Knowledge of hospital policy and operations, medical and nursing staff procedures, hospital and community resources as acquired through on the job training.
