Summary:

Performs all pathology clerical and secretarial duties using anatomic and laboratory computer systems. Files, locates, and retrieves materials from files as requested. Answers telephone inquiries regarding surgical pathology and handles send outs and case coordination of consults for the department.

** Shift- 8:00AM-4:30PM
- Computer skills working with Excel and Word required.

Responsibilities:

Manages work ques of registration and billing discrepancies.Facilitates retrieval of pathology material at the request of pathologist, physicians, patient’s and outside institutions to assist the physician and/or patient in ordering/obtaining additional testing/results, second opinion consultations and/or continued care and treatment both within HMH or to other healthcare systems while maintaining HIPAA compliance in all aspects of incoming requests/inquiries.Files and retrieves surgical, cytology and bone marrow reports, slides and blocks. Discards materials after 10 years.Transcribes recorded material, including pathology reports, autopsy reports, addendums, letters, etc.Prepares reference laboratory specimens for transport and assures reference reports are delivered, filed, and forwarded to the ordering clinician.Triage all above duties by priority, complete all required duties with efficiency and accuracy and perform any/all other duties as assigned.Prepares and retrieves reports and information sufficient for pathology presentation portion of Tumor Board conferences.Answers telephones, takes messages accurately, screens calls, and directs calls to appropriate personnel; provides varied information to callers.Processes billing and obtain accurate demographic and insurance information for third party accounts receivable/payable. Field all incoming telephone calls and customer service-related duties with respect to Anatomic Pathology/laboratory inquiries; maintenance of all office files/records and system documentation according to department policy.Prepare, arrange for transportation and send out slides and blocks for consultation, specimens for special studies, and slides and blocks for special stains.
