eBay, Inc. seeks Applied Researcher 1 in San Francisco, CA

Job Duties: Collect and analyze petabytes of seller and buyer data utilizing experience with big data processing (e.g. Hadoop, SQL, Spark} and with Python or R, and Java, Scala, and C++ to understand patterns and trends for customer activity and usage behaviors. Utilize findings to build prototypes and perform preliminary explorations to transform data into useful reports, targeting algorithms, and model features. Create machine learning models and data visualization tables to deliver insightful yet practical solutions to improve personalized recommendations based on user experience. Develop new deep learning models to solve novel tasks and improve existing model performance for large-scale computer vision systems in areas including product understanding. Design the core text-based deep learning models used to generate recommendations for eBay users. Work with multiple teams to help promote standard scientific methodologies and processes in support of machine learning algorithms powering Al-generated search engine optimization processes. Present key technical and novel research work in public forums and conferences. Apply experience with data classification, regression, recommendation systems, targeting systems, ranking systems, fraud detection, and online advertising to influence the design and scope of machine learning functions. Partial telecommuting permitted from within a commutable distance.

Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field plus two years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.

Salary: $180,128.00-234,850.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
