This role will focus on analyzing and optimizing CPC-based advertising mechanisms through experimentation, deep-dive analysis, and close collaboration with product, engineering, and business teams.
The ideal candidate combines strong analytical rigor, hands-on data skills, and ads domain curiosity, and is excited to work on large-scale marketplace and advertising problems.
Analyze and evaluate CPC-based advertising and search initiatives, including eligibility, targeting, relevance, and bidding mechanisms
Design and execute experiments (A/B tests) to measure impact on advertiser performance, buyer experience, and marketplace health
Perform deep-dive analyses on large-scale datasets to generate actionable insights for product and business teams
Translate complex analytical findings into clear, concise insights that inform product decisions
Partner closely with Ads Product, Engineering, and Analytics teams to define metrics, interpret results, and drive iteration
Support initiatives related to ads serving and platform evolution, including single ads server initiatives
Ensure analytical outputs consider ecosystem-level tradeoffs across buyers, sellers, advertisers, and eBay revenue
4-8 years experience in analytics and data science would be ideal
Strong hands-on analytical skills using SQL, with working knowledge of Python
Experience using visualization tools such as Tableau to communicate insights
Ability to analyze large-scale datasets (e.g., Hadoop-based environments) and translate data into meaningful insights
Solid grounding in descriptive and inferential statistics, with the ability to build basic prototype or exploratory models
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to connect analytical insights to business and ecosystem impact
Proactive collaborator with effective written and verbal communication skills
Experience and strong understanding of advertising mechanisms and search experience (e.g., CPC, targeting, relevance, bidding)
Ability to present sophisticated analyses in simple, intuitive terms to non-technical stakeholders
Prior experience in a leading technology or internet-scale company
Exposure to e-commerce or marketplace product analytics
Familiarity with advertising pricing mechanisms (e.g., CPC bidding, auction dynamics)
Experience working in cross-functional product or platform teams
