Job Description

The Lead Finance Specialist will be responsible for accounting operations and controllership activities associated with GE Vernova ledgers A critical part of this role, initially, will be to partner with GE Corporate Controllership to smoothly transition activities from Corporate to Vernova to facilitate separation from GE.  

Following separation this role will be responsible for controllership oversight of accounting activities within the applicable ledgers including period close, balance sheet and accounting governance, oversight of 3rd party BPO controllership teams and other related controllership tasks. There will be a close partnership with statutory and tax teams to ensure timely and efficient completion of key reporting, audit and filing requirements. 

Job Description  

Specifically, this role’s primary responsibilities include:  

  • Support effective and smooth transition of processes from GE Corporate to GE Vernova minimizing the need for new infrastructure where possible.  

  • Balance sheet responsibility for GE Vernova Company Codes including responsibility for preparing monthly and quarterly balance sheet reviews for review by the Global Controllership team. Ensuring all controls are in place to make accurate accounting and DR submissions as required. 

  • Support initiatives to enhance or change accounting systems and processes where applicable and support all initiatives to reduce redundant or inefficient activities. 

  • Drive consistent and effective processes and controls over monthly, quarterly and daily accounting processes within the team.  

  • Establish and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for operational and transactional processes impacting the financial statements, including closing, reporting and Balance Sheet analysis. Where these do not exist, create them in collaboration with the controllership, stat and tax teams. 

  • Support the Statutory and Tax Accounting team to ensure Statutory and Tax filings are submitted timely or ensure information is provided to auditors timely related to controllership activity as needed. 

  • Partner with Internal and External Auditors to complete finance related audits and drive closure of open audit issues and proactively work to prevent future issues 

  • Support with analysis of financial results, including income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement to ensure compliance, integrity of financial reporting and effectiveness of business processes.  

Basic Requirements  

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent knowledge or experience in accounting, finance, or other business-related field and significant progressive accounting or finance experience.  
  • Extensive experience working with financial systems including but not limited to Oracle, Hyperion, Business Objects and/or other related tools.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate complex business issues in a clear/concise manner.  
  • Strong analytical skills: able to clearly link financial results to operational performance drivers, generate alternatives and drive positive change.  
  • Clear thinking/problem solving successfully led projects/process improvements within operations/finance functions; able to quickly grasp new ideas.  
  • Integrity: accepting and adhering to high moral, ethical, and personal values in decisions, communications, actions and when dealing with others.  
  • Confidence/Assertiveness: strong influencing skills. 

Desired Characteristics/ qualifications 

  • Demonstrated ability working in cross functional teams or in matrixed organization with sound understanding of global process and transactional flows.   
  • Prior experience/ exposure working with GE’s financial/ operational processes and IT applications is preferred. However, commensurate experience in other organizations can be considered. 
  • Has very good understanding of risks and controls and is able to apply it in the context of achieving business objectives. 
  • Has strong interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Adaptable/ Flexible: Ability to work beyond role boundaries or with uncertainty & fluid situations- able to embrace change in response to new information, unexpected or different circumstances and ambiguous situation.
