Inpatient Pharmacy Technician

Job Summary
Saint Luke's East Hospital is seeking a skilled and dedicated Inpatient Pharmacy Technician to join our pharmacy team. Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, this role is vital to ensuring the safe and efficient preparation, distribution, and management of medications for our inpatient population. The successful candidate will support pharmacists in delivering high-quality patient care and maintaining pharmacy operations.
Responsibilities
- Medication Dispensing & Distribution: Accurately pick, fill, and deliver medication orders and Omnicell (automated dispensing cabinet) stock to appropriate hospital locations.
- Medication Compounding: Prepack drugs and compound various medications, including sterile products, chemotherapy, and special dosage forms (e.g., topicals, oral liquids).
- Pharmacy Operations & Inventory: Assist with maintaining adequate stock supplies within the pharmacy department, ensuring proper storage and inventory control.
- Communication & Support: Answer phone calls and assist hospital staff at the pharmacy window with questions and requests related to medications and pharmacy services.
- Vaccine Administration: For technicians with required training and certification, administer vaccines to patients under the supervision of a pharmacist, as approved by the Missouri licensing board.
- Team Collaboration: Attend all department and technician meetings to stay current on policies, procedures, and quality assurance initiatives.
- Medication Delivery (Advanced Care): For technicians assigned to Saint Luke’s Advanced Care Pharmacy, responsibilities may include driving and delivering medications.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Certification: Pharmacy Technician certification is required within 18 months of hire. Additional vaccine certification may be required for administering vaccines.
- State pharmacy tech license is required
- Experience: Previous inpatient pharmacy technician experience is a plus.
- Skills: Strong attention to detail, excellent communication and customer service skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented hospital environment
