Overview of the Real Estate Financing team
The Real Estate Financing team operates within BMO’s Canadian Commercial Banking division and supports privately held companies engaged in real estate construction and development. The team is accountable for driving revenue growth, managing and monitoring loan portfolios, meeting credit requirements, and supporting cross selling across our broader business. We assess financing opportunities ranging from $10,000,000 to over $1,000,000,000.
Job Overview
The Associate, Real Estate Finance is a key member of a deal team supporting the Relationship Manager in originating and executing financing opportunities across traditional residential and commercial investment properties. The Associate contributes directly to the Bank’s growth by conducting detailed financial modeling, preparing high‑quality credit submissions, and supporting the structuring and closing of complex real estate transactions.
A critical component of this role is the ability to underwrite real estate development projects, including ground‑up construction and value‑add repositioning, through comprehensive pro forma analysis, appraisal review, market research, and risk assessment. The Associate collaborates closely with internal partners across Credit, Syndications, Treasury, and Operations to ensure deals progress efficiently and clients receive a seamless experience.
This role upholds the highest standards of risk management by ensuring accuracy in underwriting, adherence to internal controls and audit requirements, and full compliance with regulatory expectations. The Associate also supports ongoing portfolio management, monitors covenant performance, and helps maintain a disciplined sales pipeline to drive team productivity and client satisfaction.
Analyzes credit information to support lending decisions and processes for new and existing Commercial banking loans and credit solutions in an assigned portfolio of clients. Makes credit decisions and recommendations in compliance with bank policies and procedures while maintaining an exceptional client service environment.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
