Job Title:

Job Summary:

Primarily responsible for advancing a donor portfolio of principal gift prospects and donors in the $50,000 -- $1,000,000+ gift range across various departments within the adult and pediatric hospitals. Responsible for working with the Executive Director of Development and Director of Principal Gifts to develop, implement, and track strategic philanthropic direction. Supervise direct fundraising staff within the development office who are responsible for gifts across specified constituencies (Children’s of Mississippi, Adult Hospital, and Clinical). Support the launch and growth of new programs and systems that elevate the profile and philanthropic success of UMMC's development program.

Education & Experience

Education and Experience Required:

 Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience in fundraising, development, or donor relations, including two (2) years in a supervisory role.

Master’s degree or higher preferred.

Deadline and goal-driven, with a commitment to connecting philanthropic supporters to institutional priorities. Ability to independently drive multiple strategic projects. Ability to build effective, collaborative relationships internally with departments, program staff, physicians, and other internal constituents. Proven record of teambuilding and management. Ability to learn appropriate levels of information about a broad range of health disciplines and interdisciplinary areas and translate that knowledge to external philanthropic support and the development of relationships through an advisory board or similar groups. Superior writing skills: the ability to develop and edit clear, articulate, grammatically correct, persuasive, donor communications. Grasp of the complexities of a medical center environment, its function, and mission. Knowledge of raiser's edge or advance database. Ability to think critically and assess processes and workflow. Ability to maintain confidentiality on behalf of philanthropic donors and medical center colleagues. Understanding of major issues and trends in healthcare and philanthropy. Outstanding organizational, project management, and time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Advances a leadership portfolio of donors and prospects throughout the state and beyond, seeking gifts in in support of the pediatric hospital, adult hospital, and clinics ($50,000 -- $1,000,000+ range).
  • Supervises team of fundraisers in support of hospital and clinical initiatives, including providing appropriate training on cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of various constituencies.
  • Collaborates effectively with development leadership to develop, implement, and track strategic planning goals.
  • Works collaboratively with other support components of the Office of Development to identify and research prospects, cultivate donor engagement, and communicate philanthropic opportunities and successes.
  • Ensures that all possible gift solicitation / acknowledgment / stewardship opportunities are realized.
  • Communicates at a leadership level with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Builds relationships and collaborates with hospital leadership to develop and advance priorities.
  • Maintains records in support of goals-based metrics.
  • Complies with established Medical Center and Development Office Customer Service standards and, when needed, helps design and implement new development office processes.

Physical and Environmental Demands
