The Role: Site Reliability Engineer Intern

The Location: Beijing, China

The Team: We are seeking a Site Reliability Engineer Intern to support the implementation and operation of our Global Index Calculation Platforms, which power major U.S. indices such as the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Averages, as well as co‑branded indices with global exchange partners including S&P/ASX, S&P/NZX, S&P/BSE, S&P/TSX, and S&P/BMV. The intern will contribute to production support for mission‑critical index applications and collaborate closely with the Client Services team to support communications with stock exchanges and provide technical assistance.

The ideal candidate is delivery‑focused and has foundational knowledge of market data across asset classes such as Equities, Commodities, Forex, Futures, and Options. In this role, you will help the business uphold its commitment to the global financial community by ensuring high availability and reliability of real‑time index delivery, while providing exemplary service to clients and stakeholders. This position has a direct business impact through the monitoring of critical index calculation processes and overall system health and offers exposure to multiple technology functions within the S&P DJI team, supporting iconic financial brands including the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Averages.

This role helps ensure the availability, stability, and performance of real-time index calculation processes that are relied upon by market participants globally. By supporting resilient operations, automating routine tasks, and enhancing monitoring, you will help protect the integrity of index delivery that clients and exchanges depend on for market visibility, product pricing, and investment decision-making.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in building and enhancing monitoring tools/frameworks to proactively identify and address issues

  • Automate checkouts and frequent requests to improve team productivity and reduce manual workload

  • Monitor critical real-time index calculation processes and overall system health to support high availability

  • Assist with production support, triage, and escalation for incidents impacting real-time applications

  • Support incident communications and coordination, including liaison with Client Services for exchange/client update

What We’re Looking For:

Basic Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s / master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related discipline

  • Java: Solid core Java foundation (OOP, collections, exception handling); able to write clean code and debug simple Java apps independently.

  • SpringBoot: Familiar with core SpringBoot features (auto-configuration, REST API, DI); hands-on experience building basic SpringBoot modules.

  • Relational Databases: Proficient in CRUD operations for Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL; skilled at basic join queries, subqueries and test data validation.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (Mandarin proficiency is a plus for local collaboration)

  • Strong collaboration skills across technology and business-facing teams (e.g., Client Services)
