ROLE SUMMARY

Reporting to the VP, Strategy & Consulting, Corporate + PRD, this role will work with Pfizer Executive Leadership (incl. CEO and ELT), a wide range of Corporate Functions, and with Pfizer Research and Development (PRD) to shape, develop, and enable execution of strategies to advance and grow Pfizer’s overall business as well as enhance the productivity and efficiency of our end-to-end PRD engine.  The scope of the role includes support for and requests from the CEO, the Pfizer Board of Directors, the ELT, enterprise-level initiatives related to a broad range of Corporate Functions (e.g., Corporate Affairs, Digital, Finance, People Experience), as well as strategic support for Pfizer’s Chief Scientific Officer and his Leadership Team.

 

The role will support the following areas: 1) Facilitate the development and refresh of the Corporate Strategic Plan (CSP), 2) Manage large cross-functional projects related to key strategic issues/priorities at the Pfizer enterprise level, 3) Work on high-impact strategy initiatives in support of key PRD priorities, and 4) Provide insight into the impact of external market, competitive and R&D-related considerations that could impact Pfizer’s end-to-end business performance or strategic direction.

 

While this position reports into the Strategy & Consulting team organizationally, this person will partner closely with the Corporate and PRD leadership teams in order to stay connected to key business challenges and opportunities, and ensure that there is alignment with strategic priorities, or adjust priorities when necessary.

 

The Director Team Lead will also lead and manage 2-3 direct reports (at Manager/Senior Associate/Senior Analyst/Analyst levels).

 

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate the completion of components of an annual corporate strategic plan, as well as a strategy action plan that manages the execution of the strategies.

  • Analyze and draw insights related to Pfizer’s overall financial performance, including revenue growth, profitability, cash flow and Total Shareholder Return (TSR).  Leverage these insights to inform overall corporate strategy as well as specific actions to bolster future business performance and outlook.

  • Engage with corporate and PRD functional leads to understand business needs and represent current status of opportunity evaluations. Identify key strategic imperatives and capabilities required to achieve these imperatives.

  • Lead or actively participate in a portfolio of projects that provide insight and direction for key strategic levers such as evolution of clinical trial paradigms, expanding into new business segments, market shaping and development, customer needs assessment, competitive advantage, market and/or product prioritization, enterprise digital strategies, Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) strategies, Research and TA strategies, and novel clinical trial paradigms, and provide day-to-day oversight to project teams of 2-6 colleagues with varying levels of experience.

  • Develop a deep expertise in market dynamics and provide perspective on the potential impact of competitive and R&D signals on future business performance for Pfizer overall and for key corporate functions to identify market trends and appropriately assess opportunities and guide strategic direction.

  • Develop external relationships that provide perspective of the diverse eco-system outside of Pfizer to shape future strategies and corporate direction.

  • Actively participate in the Strategy & Consulting team, supporting Pfizer strategy through the perspective and experience of the organizations you support, and collaborate to identify opportunities across commercial categories for alignment or best-practice sharing.

  • Create an engaging and productive work environment where team members are encouraged to collaborate and excel.

  • Lead and manage a team of 2-3 colleagues, coaching and developing them to build capabilities and deliver exceptional performance.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS – required, life sciences degree helpful. Advanced degree in a related field is preferred.

  • Minimum 8 years of relevant healthcare experience required, including experience working in or with commercial functions involving strategy development and/or strategic initiatives (e.g., marketing, commercial development, market access & pricing, etc.).

  • 3+ years of biopharmaceutical consulting experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience in corporate strategy and/or R&D preferred.

  • Understands trends and market dynamics in US and Global healthcare and biopharmaceuticals, aware of competitor strategies, and understands the drug development process.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence key stakeholders at all levels of the organization without direct authority (Executive Leadership Team members, department leaders, and functional counterparts). Must be able to influence executive commercial and research & development leaders.

  • Demonstrated strong strategic thinking skills, as evidenced by the ability to tee up the right questions, identify alternative scenarios, articulate resulting implications, and develop recommendations for decision-making or action.

  • Ability to understand and translate market and competitive dynamics into strategic implications for the BUs.

  • Demonstrated project leadership, managing complex workstreams and large teams of cross-functional colleagues with varying backgrounds and skillsets.

  • Demonstrated ability and experience in overseeing the day-to-day work of junior resources, including providing coaching, mentorship, and development.

  • Basic understanding of finance and P&L implications of any strategy.

  • Ability to work with complex information and distill into a framework that helps facilitate decision making.

  • Ability to work effectively in a matrix organization and lead with indirect authority.

  • Excellent presentation skills sufficient to address Executive Leadership teams and external audiences.

  • Strong command of English language, spoken and written.

  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $173,300.00 to $288,800.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 22.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
