Position Overview:
The Director Marketing Innovation is a leadership role where you lead a multi-functional team to create and implement beyond the core innovation for cohorts, needs and occasions. You will lead the Growth Platform for one of the 5 key platforms identified in MEU, that serve MDLZ strategy and identified global Growth Missions.
You will lead the E2E multi-functional team within Chocolate to scope the platform, validate hypotheses with consumers and customers, develop innovation bundles for experiment and learn in the identified design markets and launch big bets whilst building long term pipeline sufficiency. You will have direct people management responsibility for senior / brand managers in your team, as well as strong leadership across the dedicated E2E multifunctional team (I&A, R&D, PCM, Finance). In this role you will be accountable to set and deliver against Leading KPIs of incremental Net Revenue, category growth and share as well as delivering objectives within the timelines set.
Key Responsibilities:
You create the Chocolate strategy and implement a pipeline of innovation that is grounded in deep consumer and category insight, data-driven and digitally integrated to drive category growth
Establish clear objectives, KPIs and ROI metrics to drive performance measurement, sharing key learnings and recommendations with stakeholders, step changing MDLZ innovation capabilities and execution
Monitor industry & category trends and competitor activity to identify new opportunities and emerging trends
Lead Stakeholder meetings to ensure strategic alignment and visibility of programs to senior leadership and cross-functional partners, influencing for critical support needed
Collaborate closely with region category and local marketing, sales and category development in design markets to ensure alignment of platform deliverables and activities
Be the subject matter expert and capability builder on disruptive category growth driving innovation for the platform
Applying in depth understanding of Category, Consumer, Shopper and Customer leveraging strong insight to validate hypothesis and innovation to deliver category growth
Digging deep and truly empathizing with human needs, motivations and drivers of behavior; looking beyond brand and category insight and focusing in on the real consumer / shopper perspectives at a life level; knowing and applying consumer trends to ensure longer term strategic direction; understanding the impact of current and future trends and how we can be agile / adapt strategies accordingly
Applying solid understanding of P&L levers to utilizing financial tools for scenario modelling, business case development, and marketing expense control to enhance decision making
Driving organizational change by incorporating a ‘data, mind and heart’ philosophy to the innovation strategy and decision-making process; effectively creating a marketing measurement plan that translates business objectives to activation, and drives ultimate efficiency, through experiment and learn
Embodying a ‘Consumer First’ mindset to put the Consumer at the heart of everything we do; understanding the difference between facts and insights, and being able to glean insights from both qualitative and quantitative data sources; translating a full Situation Assessment into actionable insights and ‘so what’s’ to inform business decisions / priorities and marketing objectives
Knowing and applying MDLZ Innovation processes, tools and ways of working; delivering consumer led innovation pipelines with agility and an innovative mind-set
As appropriate, engaging with key retail partners to get early commercial insights and ultimately secure best in class launch support
Leveraging knowledge of factors that influence the pricing decision, e.g. pricing elasticity, relative and absolute pricing, everyday pricing vs price promotion and price modelling techniques to optimize innovation performance, applying sound knowledge of Price Pack Architecture (PPA) to optimize portfolio range and profitability
Understanding / implementing Brand Design across all touch points; briefing / applying packaging design principles
Understanding the category growth strategy to define short-, medium- and long-term innovation for Chocolate; effectively synthesizing qualitative and quantitative insights with a roadmap to build a pipeline of Experiment and Learn through a clear and actionable long term strategic plan
Utilizing various data sources to conduct continuous market, category, competitor and brand tracking; applying Laws of Growth principles and solid market insights to identify ‘Where to Play’ through a synthesized view of present and future growth drivers i.e. via Demand Spaces, Brand Health Tracking, Continuous, Qualitative and Quantitative sources
Qualifications:
A desire to drive your future and accelerate your career and the following experience and knowledge:
A minimum of 12 years Marketing and consumer behaviour ideally in a matrix environment in the consumer goods industry
Cross-functional, cross-geography program/project leadership and effective influencing of complex and senior stakeholder set-up
Strong commercial acumen with a comprehensive understanding of how Marketing drives business priorities, impacts the P&L, and interacts with all facets of the organization.
Data-driven and analytical mindset, capable of conducting thorough assessments, presenting clear insights, and driving data-informed decision-making.
Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools.
Proven ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams to achieve common goals.
Developing and marketing product innovations at a cross-country level
Working with design, innovation and research agencies
Markets with diverse economic environments a distinct advantage
