The Sr. Accountant, Debt Accounting is primarily responsible for assisting in analyzing, reconciling, and recording debt transactions of the Company, our Joint Ventures (JVs) and our Third-Party Management (3PM) entities.  This associate will work closely with the accounting and finance teams, as well as other departments across the organization, in addition to assisting in various accounting analyses. The ideal candidate will have experience in accounting for various debt instruments, well-developed organizational skills, an attention to detail, and a thorough knowledge of U.S. GAAP.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the accounting and reporting process for debt transactions for Invitation Homes, JV Partners, and 3PM entities to ensure accurate reporting within established closing and reporting calendars, including preparation and review of deliverables and adherence to established deadlines.
  • Maintain swap, hedge, and deferred financing cost Excel schedules and record monthly, quarterly, and annual journal entries.
  • Analyze and monitor debt related activity by working with internal departments and banking institutions and record associated journal entries.
  • Prepare and review debt-related calculations and schedules including, but not limited to, debt roll-forwards and reconciliations, recognition and amortization of deferred financing costs, accounting for derivatives and swaps, other expenses, and monthly and quarterly journal entries.
  • Read and understand loan agreements to ensure all bank account set ups and cash movements comply with debt covenants.
  • Assist with year-end and other audit inquiries.
  • Comply with policies, procedures, and controls and bring inconsistencies and problems to management’s attention.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field is required.
  • 3+ years in an accounting or finance related position, with debt accounting experience a plus.
  • Experience in the real estate industry (or a large public company) is preferred.

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities including the ability to identify and implement best practices that improve the team’s effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Proficient with Excel and excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including an ability to effectively present information and build and manage key internal relationships.
  • High energy and a can-do attitude, exhibiting a responsible and responsive tenacity.
  • Willingness and ability to be hands on to get the job done.
  • Experience working both independently and, in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

  • Ability to be at work on a regular and consistent basis; overtime may be required for this position.

Physical and Mental Demands

This position will spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. The position may also entail light lifting of supplies and materials occasionally, up to and including 20 pounds in addition to reaching, stooping, standing, and walking. This position requires the ability to talk, hear, compare, compute, compile, copy, analyze, coordinate, synthesize, negotiate, and communicate. Salary Range

$61,650.00 - $106,860.00
