Effectively participates in a number of activities involving technology development and manufacturing deployment of existing and new composites products, with the main focus on development of new equipment, molding and testing. Applies theoretical and practical knowledge in these areas to support new technology products and development activities. Will also use knowledge & experience with specific materials and analysis techniques to select, develop and implement manufacturing methods and tools. Work closely with cross-functional teams to define and communicate capabilities, evaluate new opportunities, and provide technical solutions to manufacturing challenges. Individual is directly supervised and work deliverables reviewed for completeness.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Carries out assigned research and experiments typically focused on equipment development as well as on new molding techniques, molding, and coupon testing using solid scientific principles. Documents all test results and observations providing initial summarized reports of designs and test results. Documents all process, methods and results.

2. Assists in determining the operations required for fabrication and assembly of products by reviewing parts drawings, specifications, and other engineering data (Design for manufacturing). May develop sequence of operations, estimate time requirements for each, and prepare operation sheets.

3. Performs set-up and execution of material testing such as mechanical testing (tensile, etc.), thermal and electrical properties tests

4. Strong science, engineering and mathematical skills to enable experimental design, planning and analysis based on statistical or other analyses with limited to no supervision.

6. Developing fundamental awareness of customer and industry technical requirements as well as basic business acumen in regards to the business impact of technical decisions.

7. Utilizes computer applications for design, and simulation to build and analyze designs.

8. Maintains and calibrates equipment to ensure accuracy and readiness for use.

9. Observe and uphold safe environment

Required Minimum Qualifications

Education/Certifications:
BS in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering Polymer Science, Materials Science; or related scientific discipline.

Skills and Experience:
• In depth knowledge of design of production and/or testing machines or devices

• Theoretical and preferably practical working knowledge of materials testing processes and testing equipment. General aptitude to perform mechanic’s tasks such as routine cleaning & maintenance and occasional trouble shooting.

• Demonstrated initiative; being a self-starter requiring minimal supervision.

• Strong reporting and communication skills. Proficient in MS Office – Excel, Word, Power Point
