POSITION:                         DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

REPORTS TO:                    Assistant General Manager and General Manager

FLSA STATUS:                   Full-Time Exempt

ASM Global, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for a Director of Operations at Soldier Field in Chicago, IL.  Soldier Field is in the fast lane for opportunity and excitement. We are seeking a unique Director of Operations person to join our Operations team.  The Director of Operations, under general supervision, is responsible for the daily activities required to run, maintain, and service the facility and/or the events. Also, acts as liaison between the facility and clients, ensuring all clients’ requirements are met and facility rules, regulations and policies are adhered to.

Essential Duties:

  • Directs, supervises and schedules all aspects of Operations, including; Building and Grounds, including ADA compliance; Change-Over/Set-Ups, Capital Planning, and Field Operations

  • Primary contract administrator for Facility Services (Housekeeping), Landscape Services, Pest Control, and Waste Services

  • Coordinates the Operations activities with other departments and event related contractors to assure facility readiness and smooth operation of events

  • Implements and updates facility rules, regulations, policies and procedures

  • Provides clear, concise, and timely communication of directives to other departments

  • Ensures that Operations Department receives pertinent information for the most effective use of the facility and staffing

  • Assists in the preparation of the Annual Operating Budget and recommends a capital budgets for 1-year and 5-year long-range repairs and improvements to the facility

  • Authorizes the requisition of equipment and supplies within budget guidelines

  • Provides yearly inventory of all equipment

  • Knows and ensures all laws, codes, ordinances, policies, procedures, Risk Management, safety precautions, rules/regulations and emergency procedures are followed

  • Develops program to train all employees on Fire/Life Safety, Emergency and OSHA Procedures

  • Investigates, analyzes and resolves operational problems and complaints

  • Conducts periodic staff meetings to discuss procedures, problems and policy changes

  • Works closely with the General Manager/Assistant GM in the preparation and negotiation of Service Agreements. Reviews contracts for compliance with events and /or government specifications and suitability for occupancy

  • Negotiates with vendors, unions, contractors and/or service providers when needed

  • Develops and implement preventive maintenance schedules, emergency procedures, safety and Risk Management policies in compliance with all Corporate and governmental regulations.

  • Acts as liaison to public utility, environmental, and energy agencies. Assist GM in implementation of any energy saving guidelines.

  • Continuously assess and enhance sustainability initiatives within the stadium and recreational facilities to foster ongoing improvement and professional excellence.

  • Coordinates and oversees special projects, such as construction, remodeling or expansion. Plans and directs outside vendors/contractors work to assure compliance with contracts and safety requirements for all recreational facilities and Soldier Field.

  • Ensure facility’s fire and emergency safety systems are in operating order and compliant with all codes, ordinances and laws.

  • Will serve as the point of contact for all international major events and concerts when needed

  • Serves as the Manager on Duty as Required

  • May perform other duties as assigned

Skills Required: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with ASM's policies and applicable laws.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of practices and procedures related to event set-up and conversions; typical methods and techniques for cleaning and maintaining the facility equipment; and proper use and care of hand and power tools.

  • Demonstrate ability to carry out tasks in a reliable, productive and expedient manner and be able to adhere to strict deadlines.

  • Possess skills and experience in contract negotiations, business law, budget preparation, labor relations, union contracts, purchasing procedures and supervising/training personnel.

  • Engage in much decision-making that is generally governed by procedure and guided by policy.

  • Demonstrate ability to carry out tasks in a reliable, productive and expedient manner and be able to adhere to strict deadlines.

  • Work independently, exercising judgment and initiative.

  • Work in a fast-paced environment.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk extensively, occasionally required to kneel, climb to high walkways or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • This position requires work inside and outside of the building and some exposure to adverse conditions.

  • Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.

  • Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays, as needed.

  • Serves as MOD (Manager on Duty) as required

Education And/Or Experience

Bachelor's Degree from technical college with major in Management or Maintenance Engineering.  Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Supervising or Managing in a similar facility.  Additional experience may be substituted for education.  Supervisory experience required.
