About One Acre Fund

Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund equips 5.5 million smallholder farmers to make their farms more productive. Across nine countries that together are home to two-thirds of Africa's farmers, we provide high-quality farm supplies, tree seedlings, accessible credit, modern agronomic training, and a wide range of other agricultural services. On average, this model enables any farmer to increase their income and assets on supported land by more than 35 percent, while permanently improving their resilience. About the Role

We're looking for a Chief of Staff to help drive One Acre Fund Tanzania forward. You will be the internal engine that helps turn ideas into execution—connecting strategy, people, and systems across the organization.

This role combines leadership, coordination, and communication. You will:

• Lead our People Division (HR, Compliance, Legal)
• Help senior leaders translate strategy into action
• Maintain visibility over enterprise risk and compliance
• Drive staff engagement, culture-building, and inclusive practices
• Support cross-functional alignment and internal communications

This is a high-trust, high-autonomy role. You'll report directly to the Country Director and collaborate daily with other department leads.

Responsibilities

Lead the People Division

• Directly manage HR and Compliance Leads
• Oversee talent, policy, payroll, fleet, facilities, and legal workflows
• Ensure alignment with donor and regulatory requirements

Strategy Rhythm & Execution

• Co-run monthly OKR cycles and business reviews
• Draft memos, briefs, and talking points for key decisions
• Act as a communication bridge across levels and regions

Enterprise Risk & Compliance

• Maintain a unified risk register across legal, fraud, H&S, and donor items
• Track key regulatory deadlines (permits, tax filings, etc.)
• Partner with our Government Relations Lead to resolve gap

Culture & Engagement

• Drive pulse surveys, workshops, and inclusive staff learning moments
• Proactively spot and solve cultural friction points
• Support gender equity, well-being, and fair representation

Special Projects

• Lead strategy “sprints” (e.g. org-wide vision refresh or performance rollout)
• Co-design leadership retreats and internal events
• Translate program data into clear donor-friendly materials

Qualifications

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

Must-Have

• 7+ years in HR, operations, or strategy, including at least 3 years managing teams
• Excellent project management and written communication
• Strong financial fluency (budgets, forecasting, salary modeling)
• High emotional intelligence and discretion
• Fluent in Swahili and English
• Comfortable in an office-based role in Iringa, with occasional travel

Nice-to-Have

• Experience in agriculture, nonprofit, or government partnerships
• Familiarity with Tanzanian labor and regulatory frameworks
• Background in HRBP, audit, legal, or internal comms
