The Hedge Funds & ILS team manages over $11 billion in capital allocated to external managers across a broad range of strategies and global markets. As part of the Capital Markets department, the team plays a critical role in generating enhanced, diversified returns by partnering with external managers who bring differentiated expertise that complements Ontario Teachers’ internal investment capabilities.
This role is ideal for a senior investor with deep experience in Rates and Macro strategies, strong risk‑taking judgment, and the ability to lead portfolio decisions in dynamic and uncertain market conditions.

Be directly accountable for the performance and risk management of a portfolio of external hedge fund managers across strategies including Rates Relative Value, Macro, and Multi‑Strategy.
Build and leverage your network of relationships to lead the origination of new managers that are accretive to the portfolio
Develop and maintain a forward‑looking view of market opportunity sets, adjusting portfolio positioning as market environments evolve.
Lead comprehensive investment and operational due diligence on external hedge fund managers, including negotiation of investment terms and coordination with internal partners across legal, compliance, risk, and operations.
Monitor portfolio exposures, risk metrics, and P&L across individual managers, strategies, and the overall hedge fund portfolio.
Contribute to the development of analytical tools and frameworks that support portfolio construction, risk analysis, and tactical investment decisions.
Provide mentorship, guidance, and performance feedback to junior team members, fostering a collaborative and high‑performing investment culture.
Contribute to the long‑term vision and strategic direction of the Hedge Funds & ILS platform.
Build effective partnerships across Capital Markets and the broader organization to advance shared investment objectives.
What You’ll Bring
A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience within an investment bank, asset manager, hedge fund, or fund‑of‑funds environment, ideally with direct exposure to portfolio management and risk taking.
Deep expertise in Rates / Fixed Income and Macro strategies, both as asset classes and investment approaches.
Proven ability to make risk‑adjusted investment decisions under uncertainty, balancing opportunity, precision, and timing.
Broad understanding of the hedge fund landscape, including hedge fund strategies, portfolio theory, valuation, and risk management.
Demonstrated investment track record with prior experience leading and developing junior staff.
Strong quantitative, analytical, and modeling capabilities to assess risk and return drivers.
Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline such as economics, finance, business, engineering, or computer science, or equivalent experience
