This position will oversee and direct multiple teams of casualty claims Managers and Executive Claims Specialists with responsibility for the resolution of claims within the Casualty Claims Division. This position will report to the Senior Director, Casualty Claims and be responsible for conveying the organization’s objectives and priorities to staff and measure progress towards stated goals.

Job Description

  • Responsible for the all facets of the division’s performance
  • Develop and execute strategies focused on improving claim quality and delivering superior customer service
  • Analyze and provide appropriate direction on coverage, strategic direction and resolution of complex high exposure claims
  • Review and approve reserves, Large Loss Reports and settlements in excess of Managers’ and Executive Claims Specialists’ authority
  • Make recommendations concerning reserve changes to senior management
  • Recognize significant potential exposure on claims and prepare appropriate alerts to Executive Management and internal business partners
  • Ensure that team adheres to Fair Claims Practices regulations
  • Ensure team members adhere to Claims Department compliance standards
  • Assess and evaluate performance of individual Managers, Specialists, and teams, and provide feedback
  • Identify training needs and develop strategies for addressing those needs
  • Prepare and distribute reports by collecting and summarizing information
  • Assist in preparation of budgets, evaluation of expenses and assessing resource needs
  • Foster and encourage strong relationships with internal stakeholders (UW, PL, Actuarial)
  • Promote and enhance strong relationships with customers and channel partners
  • Participate in special projects as requested
  • Travel to other claim offices and conferences as required

Job Requirements

  • Superior claims technical skills and a strong understanding of product lines being supported
  • Coverage expertise with respect to primary, excess and umbrella policy forms
  • Ability to manage teams of seasoned Managers and Specialists responsible for handling a variety of claims on both primary and excess policies
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Ability to deliver outstanding customer service
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • JD or advanced degree a plus

Certification

  • CPCU, state bar admission or successful achievement of other industry designations

Work Experience

  • Experience handling casualty claims (including primary and excess bodily injury, advertising injury & property damage liability matters)
  • Minimum of 12 years of claims handling/legal and management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The national average salary for the Director, Casualty Claims is $127,600 - $204,120 with 45% bonus potential.
