The Opportunity

This position works out of our Ottawa, Ontario location in the Point of Care, Diagnostics division. We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life.   Our Point of Care diagnostic portfolio spans key health and therapeutic areas, including Chemistry, Electrolytes, Hematology, Blood Gases, Coagulation, Endocrinology, Cardiac Markers, Neurology, and Informatics.  We are currently seeking an Assembly Component Operator II in the Cartridge Assembly Department for our Ottawa, Ontario location in the Point of Care, Diagnostics division.  As an Assembly Component Operator II for an Assembly Line, you will have the chance to be a key contributor in ensuring manufacturing output, quality, and compliance of i-STAT cartridges. In this role you will be responsible for achieving all key performance indicators (KPI) for the Assembly Line, including  Safety, Quality, Line Output, Line Yield, and OEE. 

What You’ll Do:

  • Set up, operate and monitor Assembly machines and processes in compliance with documented procedures.

  • Manage (receive, transact, load, transfer) manufacturing materials and finished product to and from the line.

  • Continuously monitor the process for jams, equipment disruptions, etc. and address immediately.

  • Ensure optimal line cycle time through observation, measurement, and action of bottlenecks and buffers.

  • Meet, or exceed, operational performance goals such as line speed, efficiency, cartridges per hour, downtime, quality, compliance, yield and output.

  • Collaborate with Lead Machine Operator, OpTech, or Equipment Technicians in the resolution of quality and downtime events, impacting line output.

  • Assist with On Demand and Preventative maintenance of the line.

  • Deliver accurate, timely, and legible record keeping in compliance with procedures, abiding by GMP standards and practices.

  • Demonstrate compliant gowning and clean room techniques and maintain a tidy, organized and clean workspace in support of 5s.

  • Understand and comply with applicable EH&S policies, procedures and guidelines and applicable manufacturing procedures.

  • Safeguard the environment and facilitate a safe and healthy workplace culture.

  • As required support Operator training and development.

  • Other miscellaneous duties as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum High School diploma, post-secondary training also a consideration.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in an APOC manufacturing environment, ideally with at least 1 year of experience.

  • Strong mechanical, communication, teamwork and trouble-shooting skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating an Assembly Line with a history of meeting and exceeding performance targets.

  • Certification on multiple types of Assembly Lines.

  • Certification in Lead Hand / Material Management procedures. 

  • Experience with troubleshooting, repairing, and/or maintaining equipment.
