Job Summary:

We are looking for a BC/BE Intensivist that has completed a Neuro Critical Care Fellowship to provide medical care for critically ill patients in our Neuro ICUs at United Hospital and Abbott Northwestern Hospital. This position would spend approximately fifty percent of the time at each location. This individual would join a large and well-established group of employed Intensivists comprised of 40 physicians and APPs across both sites. The position would be expected to work collaboratively with providers and leadership from a variety of neuroscience sub-specialties for patient care, quality, and programmatic development. This position is a part of the Allina Health Neuroscience, Spine, and Pain Institute.

Job Description:

  • Provide direct patient care in the neuro intensive care units at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and United Hospital, but also intervene on critically ill patients throughout the hospital environment as needed including cardiovascular, medical, and surgical critical care settings.
  • Reviews patients’ medical histories while collecting, prioritizing, and synthesizing comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation.
  • Evaluates, interprets, and coordinates information to make decisions and recommendations regarding patient care.
  • Provides education, consultation and intervention to patients (treatment plan) and their families.
  • May participate in peer review and quality assurance.
  • Ability to collaborate with physicians and administrative leaders across disciplines, primarily, but not limited to neuroscience and critical care.
  • Strong interest in quality improvement, clinical programmatic development, and leadership
  • Other duties as assigned.

Practice Details​

  • Position will be responsible for managing Neuro ICU patients at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and United Hospital, with approximately 50% of time spent at each location.
  • Abbott Northwestern has 13 dedicated Neuro ICU rooms located on a recently completed (2019) state of the art 43,000 SF neuroscience floor, with an additional 43 general neurology beds. Overall, Abbott has 75 ICU beds across three ICUs: Neuro ICU, Cardiovascular ICU, and Medical/Surgical ICU
  • United has 14 dedicated Neuro ICU rooms
  • Full spectrum of adult critical care practice, with exception of major trauma: -Cardiovascular critical care including large volume CV surgery practice, VA-ECMO and other mechanical circulatory support, cardiac transplantation

-Comprehensive Stroke Centers at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and United Hospital

-Level 4 Epilepsy Center

  • Typical workload of 10-14 patients per rounding intensivist
  • Days/Nights/Weekends

Job Requirements

  • MD, DO, or foreign equivalency training required.
  • Completion of either ACGME or AOA accredited neurology residency and critical care fellowship OR Completion of either ACGME or AOA accredited internal medicine residency and neurocritical care fellowship.
  • Active, non-restricted medical license in MN (or ability to obtain).
  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain MN DEA certification and National Provider Identifier (NPI)
  • Ability to meet criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and hospital privileges, if applicable
  • ACLS/BLS - required within 180 days of hire
