One of our most challenging new fields is Microelectronics Design and Applications (MDA), which combines the unique properties of superconductivity and quantum mechanics to develop radical new energy-efficient computing systems.
MDA is seeking a Software Engineer with demonstrated ability to develop industry best practice software standards to support novel simulations for our emerging supercomputing technologies.
This position requires 100% work on site at our Linthicum, MD location and/or our Annapolis Junction, MD location.

The selected individual requires strong software development skills and will be responsible for supporting teams in all phases of the software development lifecycle including design, development, and test. Candidates should have a solid foundation with best practices in software design, continuous integration / continuous delivery (CI/CD) tools and processes, and object-oriented programming. Candidates should be familiar with the Agile methodology of software development.
Your responsibilities:
Support simulation team’s software development lifecycle:
Work in an engineering role that executes all facets of building complex software in an Agile development environment
Perform engineering activities, focusing on software, across the full spectrum from conceptual design to deployment
Define, implement, and verify software capabilities and tools supporting novel technologies and applications
Collaborate with multi-disciplined teams to define technical architectures for software-intensive systems
Drive and collaborate on the development of technical requirements and synthesize software architectures
Conduct design and code reviews
Define standards for unit testing, regression testing, integration testing, and stakeholder acceptance
Aid in developing documentation and briefing material
T2-Basic Qualifications for Software Engineer:
Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 2+ years of relative experience; master’s degree in a STEM discipline with 0+ years of relative experience
Experience with the Agile software development lifecycle
Experience defining and implementing software standards
Experience developing and communicating software requirements
Experience developing best-practice software frameworks with CI/CD pipelines and versioning tools
Experience and knowledge of object-oriented programming languages such as Python, C++, Matlab, etc.
Capable of effective communication in a highly technical environment
This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. Citizen.
Ability to obtain and maintain a clearance per business requirements.
T2-Preferred Qualifications for Software Engineer:
Willingness to learn transformational computing technology concepts and domain appropriate for a software simulations role
Ability to learn and aid in ways to improve an existing code base
Experience with Data engineering and processing pipelines
Experience with UI design and development
Experience with test automation and instrument control
Experience with embedded systems and hardware/software integration
Experience with creating design artifacts such as UML and SysML
Active clearance per business requirements.
