Position Summary

Identifies recruitment sources, recruits, interviews, and helps managers select the best qualified candidates to fill opportunities within assigned schools and departments. Provides ongoing and constructive feedback to hiring managers, directors, faculty and candidates to ensure all receive outstanding customer service. Provides suggestions for retention strategies and transitioning displaced employees as needed.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Builds strong business relationships with assigned departments to ensure successful accomplishment of school and departmental recruiting needs within legal and University guidelines.
  • Proactively recruits active and passive candidates utilizing various sources along with researching and recommending new sources for solicitation of an active and passive, diverse applicant pool.
  • Collaborates with department hiring managers in creating a recruiting strategy which identifies anticipated needs regarding positions, potential candidate sources and associated costs. Assists hiring managers in planning a schedule with realistic time sequences for goal accomplishment.
  • Guides and coaches hiring managers through the search process including developing criteria to assess the best fit for the position, developing interview questions, consulting on applicable assessments/skills testing, making the hiring selection, determining appropriate salaries for offers, explaining benefits, and enthusiastically selling Washington University to “close the deal” with the desired candidate.
  • Assists hiring managers in assessing application materials, making appropriate referrals, interviewing and evaluating viability of applicants, and participating in the interview process Interviews candidates to help identify the best fit candidates to refer/recommend to the hiring manager, as needed.
  • Helps ensure consistent, fair, and effective hiring practices, hiring manager understanding of University policies, timely and appropriate applicant communications, and fair/competitive offers.
  • Identifies various recruitment and sourcing resources available and uses them to accomplish goals.  Works with Hiring Manager to develop alternative courses of action and choose the best recruitment strategy for a given situation.
  • Develops and maintains expertise in specific areas to improve personal knowledge of areas served. Keeps up-to-date in the specialized aspects of the job and job titles responsible for.
  • Strategizes with teammates and recruitment leadership to determine and accomplish recruitment goals.  
  • Promotes the University’s EEO/AA through identifying sources and assisting in recruitment efforts.
  • Provides HR services in support of organizational goals, such as promoting from within, proactive placement of displaced employees, promoting diversity and consultation to University employees in support of inter- and intra-departmental transfer.
  • Assists in the identification of recruitment issues and subsequent training to meet those needs.  This includes coaching or conducting training on such issues as HR recruitment policies, sourcing techniques, effective interviewing, use of the applicant tracking system, etc. 
  • May support executive and faculty searches in screening and sourcing candidates as needed.
  • Advises schools and departments on laws and policies on recruitment, employment and hiring. Provides guidance to management regarding compliance with federal or university applicant screening and tracking requirements.
  • Performs specific projects and other duties as assigned.  Examples may include developing and implementing special projects, programs and initiatives, as assigned.

  • Behavioral analysis certification in a model similar to Activity Vector Analysis (AVA).
  • Working knowledge of general research theory and practice with ability to recognize recruitment needs. 
  • Demonstrated consultation skills with the ability to understand the needs of hiring managers, influence their decisions and provide solutions.
  • Demonstrated assessment, selection and interviewing skills with ability to develop effective working relationships with applicants, management, staff and general public.

Salary Range

$58,400.00 - $99,700.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
