ROLE OVERVIEW: 

We're hiring a Community Specialist, to support the delivery of a one-of-a-kind national, multi-city touring program across Canada. As the Community Specialist you will play a critical role in ensuring each stop of our national touring program is seamlessly integrated into the communities we visit. 

This role is responsible for working directly with municipal stakeholders, public safety departments, and local partners to ensure all approvals, compliance measures, and community considerations are in place well in advance of each event. You will act as the primary liaison between SALT, our client, and the community ensuring our activations are not only compliant and safe, but also welcomed, supported, and meaningfully connected to each market. 

This role is ideal for a proactive, detail oriented, relationship-driven professional who thrives in complex planning environments and understands how to balance regulatory requirements with community engagement. 

 

RESPONSIBILTIES: 

  • Municipal & Regulatory Coordination 
  • Lead permitting processes across all tour markets, ensuring timely submission and approval of required documentation 
  • Coordinate with municipal offices, parks departments, transportation authorities, and city officials 
  • Liaise with police, fire, EMS, and public safety departments to align on event plans and emergency protocols 
  • Ensure all local, provincial, and federal regulations are met 
  • Maintain detailed compliance trackers and documentation for each market 
  • Health, Safety & Risk Planning 
  • Support development of comprehensive health & safety plans tailored to each municipality 
  • Coordinate emergency response planning with local authorities 
  • Ensure proper insurance documentation, site maps, and operational plans are distributed as required 
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks related to site selection, public access, and crowd management 
  • Community Integration & Stakeholder Relations 
  • Identify opportunities to integrate local vendors, talent, nonprofits, or community groups into event programming 
  • Act as a respectful and proactive representative of SALT within each market 
  • Address community concerns and ensure open lines of communication before, during, and after events 
  • Support development of community-facing communications when required 
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration 
  • Partner closely with touring team to align permitting and operational requirements 
  • Ensure site plans, load-in/load-out timing, road closures, and public access details are approved and clearly communicated 
  • Maintain centralized documentation to support seamless execution across markets 
  • Flag potential compliance risks early and recommend solutions 

 

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS: 

  • 2-5 year's experience working with experiential events, cross country tours, municipalities, permitting offices, or public agencies in event or activation environments 
  • Strong understanding of public safety planning and regulatory compliance 
  • Proven ability to manage multiple markets and timelines simultaneously 
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills 
  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation and organizational capabilities 
  • Calm, diplomatic, and solutions-oriented under pressure 
  • Ability to balance community priorities with brand and operational objectives 
  • Experience in live events, touring programs, or large-scale activations considered an asset 
  • Education in Public Relations, Communications, Event Management, Sport Management, or a related field is a plus 

 

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Ability to travel periodically to tour markets as needed 
  • Willingness to attend site visits, municipal meetings, and on-site event days when required 
  • Ability to manage complex documentation and deadlines with high accuracy 
  • Adherence to all local, provincial, and federal regulations
