In Accounting & External Reporting (“AER”) we are a team of experts dedicated to ensuring absolute integrity and accuracy of our financial data and reporting, delivering results with speed and data that enables insights for Enterprise Value Creation.

This role leads all aspects of indirect tax compliance, including the preparation and filing of sales/use tax, personal property, and real property tax returns across multiple U.S. jurisdictions while ensuring accuracy and adherence to regulatory requirements. The position is responsible for optimizing tax technology platforms (such as Avalara and Vertex), automating data flows and reporting, and driving strategic initiatives like ERP system optimization and SOX-compliant controls. It involves researching complex tax issues—including taxability determinations, exemption certificates, and nexus analysis—while monitoring legislative changes and assessing their business impact.

A strong understanding of financial systems is required. Experience in SAP, Vertex, and Avalara is preferred.  SAP S/4 HANA experience is a plus. 

How You Will Contribute:

  • Lead the preparation and filing of indirect tax returns across multiple U.S. jurisdictions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with complex regulatory requirements

  • Oversee the preparation and filing of personal and real property tax returns across all applicable jurisdictions

  • Optimize the use of tax technology platforms (e.g., Avalara, Vertex) to drive efficiency and accuracy

  • Supervise and mentor direct reports, fostering professional development

  • Research and analyze sales and use tax issues, including taxability determinations, exemption certificates, and nexus analysis

  • Explore and integrate tools to automate data flows and reporting

  • Track and maintain filing calendars and registrations across multiple jurisdictions

  • Prepare and review tax account journal entries and reconciliations

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to ensure timely and accurate compliance

  • Lead strategic initiatives to enhance indirect tax operations, including ERP system optimization, automation of compliance workflows, and implementation of SOX-compliant controls for reporting and documentation.

  • Engage cross-functionally to ascertain the correct tax status and evaluate the taxability of company purchases, and handle other direct marketing products/samples tax-related issues.

  • Ensure strict adherence to policies, standards, and procedures to maintain consistency and compliance with tax laws and regulations.

  • Assume leadership in Indirect Tax matters

  • Lead the management of jurisdictional audits, ensuring comprehensive coverage and adherence to regulatory requirements

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting sales and use tax and assess their impact on the business

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in indirect tax, gained within a large multi-national corporation

  • CPG experience preferred

  • Expertise in U.S. indirect tax regulations, with hands-on experience in SAP, Vertex, and Avalara. SAP S/4 HANA experience is a plus.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field. CPA certification is a plus but not required.

  • Proficient with tax technology platforms (e.g., Avalara) and proficient in Microsoft Excel.

  • Strong influencing and communication skills

  • Strong Excel skills, and ability to handle/analyze large amounts of complex data.

  • Technical skills, problem solving, and a challenging/assertive approach.

  • Ability to work with details and to understand business implications.

Salary and Benefits:

The base salary range for this position is $122,000 to $167,750; the exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education and location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for participation in a highly competitive bonus program with possibility for overachievement based on performance and company results.
