Summary of Position:
As Senior manager - Software engineering, you will apply your knowledge of Software Engineering best practices, and proven processes to lead teams to deliver a software product on high quality, within planned schedule. This role involves leading a diverse team of Software engineers specialized in Software development, Test automation, and DevOps. In this role, you will build a Software Engineering team that defines, tests, and delivers features with quality for Alcon Digital Health Products. As a leader of this team, you and your team will collaborate with Product. Program, Architecture, IT and R&D teams to design, develop and test Digital Health Foundational Services product features.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the engineering team comprised of Software Engineers, Software test automation & DevOps Engineers, through the product development lifecycle while meeting quality, regulatory compliance and schedule.
- Provide functional leadership of the team, team/talent development, skill set improvement, mentoring, prioritization and team allocation.
- Provide regular coaching, feedback, developmental/growth opportunities to the team members.
- Participate in design and code review sessions as appropriate, to ensure the quality of work delivered by self and teammates are in accordance with development standards.
- Interact with business units to define requirements/modifications and use case to utilize in designing appropriate solutions.
- Create and maintain scalable infrastructure leveraging modern AWS cloud platforms.
- Knowledge of all development aspects within an Agile SDLC framework, including estimation, design, development, unit test, code reviews, and documentation
- Communicate effectively with leadership, providing transparency to the status, quality, and throughput of work through metrics and reviews.
- Operate as an engaged leader who serves as a subject matter and technical expert for assigned programs and development initiatives.
- Energize the team for strong engagement on India Site initiatives and collaboration with Digital Health products.
- Translate & communicate program strategies to the team.
- Drive a culture of innovation, engineering excellence, accountability, and global collaboration.
- Drive local vendor partnership effectiveness.
- Work with functional managers to effectively realize functional excellence in the various disciplines of the product development.
Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors/master’s degree in computer science engineering or equivalent discipline.
- 12+ years overall progressive engineering work experience through a variety of program and functional leadership roles.
- Demonstrated experience in leading Software Engineering teams and People leadership.
- Demonstrated experience of software development life cycle as part of building successful Digital Engineering products. Proficient with technical design, programming, and testing practices.
- Knowledge on AWS Platform & Technologies – S3, Cloud Watch, Lambda, RDS DB, Dynamo DB, Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, etc.
- Sound knowledge of BDD based software test automation, automation frameworks like Tricentis etc.
- Good experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GIT, etc) and established standard DevOps practices.
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum software development framework.
- Proven Analytical and Problem Resolution Skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong Debugging and Troubleshooting Expertise
- Experience working in a global, matrixed organization.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with senior leadership with confidence and clarity.
- Supports the team to drive through risk and ambiguity. Strong bias towards action and delivery. Proactively identifies and removes project obstacles or barriers on behalf of the team
Specific Job Posting Content
- Minimum of 3 years of engineering management experience and providing leadership to direct reports
- Strong collaboration skills for effective communication across multiple teams and stakeholders, both internal and external
- Good Understanding of full stack platform concepts and technologies.
- Experience in AWS, containerization platforms like Docker & Kubernetes.
- Experience in API Development using REST, JSON and GraphQL.
- Ability to solve complex software development/architecture/ design issues
- Experience developing as part of Agile/Scrum team is preferred
- Deep understanding of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, Caching, and Micro-Services
- Experience developing RESTful APIs, JSON, and multi-threaded web services
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment, along with JIRA, Bitbucket, Slack, and Git.

Ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English.
