The Microelectronics, Design, and Applications (MDA) organization is seeking a Principal / Sr. Principal Factory Modeling Systems Engineer to join our team and pioneer new approaches, design and implement technologies for a computer integrated manufacturing system. You’ll work in a fast-paced team environment alongside physicists, design engineers, and superconducting foundry engineers to make these technologies a reality.
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Principal / Sr. Principal Factory Modeling Systems Engineer. This position is located at the Linthicum, MD location.
What You’ll get to Do:
Create factory floor models, develop capacity planning models, validate master scheduling, and prediction accuracy
Integrate systems of factory planning tools for a manufacturing organization
Utilize capacity models to create wafer start plan for fab loading
Identify shortcomings in capacity models for the factory floor as well as adapting to changing needs in an R&D manufacturing environment
Design, collect data, analyze, and compile reports on a variety of WIP in a high mix environment
Evaluate impacts of process changes to capacity models
Build and implement tools to evaluate manufacturing efficiency and identify opportunities for improvement
Optimize capacity of fab equipment by performing fab wide and tool specific optimization studies
Use systems engineering principles throughout daily work
This is a dual level requisition which can be filled at either the Principal or Sr. Principal Factory Modeling Systems Engineer level.
Basic Qualifications for Principal Factory Modeling Systems Engineer:
A degree in a STEM area (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with a minimum of 5 years of experience with a bachelor’s degree, 3 years of experience with a master’s degree, or 0 years of experience with a PhD
Experience in manufacturing microelectronics or semiconductor fabs, including experience with semiconductor CIM components
Exposure to capacity planning and/or factory capacity modeling specific to semiconductor or microelectronics manufacturing
Has experience in production control, inventory control, process control, or shop floor control / Material Resources Planning (MRP)
Comfortable with leading meetings and being an agent for change and continuous improvement
Capability of utilizing SQL to acquire necessary data for model building and simulation
Experience with defining requirements and technology roadmaps for internal stakeholders and external vendors
Capability to create test plans for requirement sell off events
Must be willing to work on site 100% of time
Limited travel to local Northrop Grumman facilities may be required
This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. citizen
Must be able to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance per business requirements

Active US government security clearance per business requirements
Strong skills in data mining, data analysis, and critical thinking to aid in troubleshooting scheduling issues
Understands how factory planners use simulation and advanced analytics tools to perform WIP scheduling in automated fashions
Experience using industrial and systems engineering principles in the context of capacity model and factory planning systems
Has worked with Applied Materials SmartFactory Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) solution
Strong understanding of Factory Physics within a Semiconductor or Microelectronics fabrication facility
Capable of performing multivariate optimizations on a model to maximize or minimize a particular objective function with regards to output and cycle time
Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and software tools, i.e. Atlassian tools stack - Jira, Confluence
