As the Executive Director of Category Promo & Coupon Planning & Execution, you will use your leadership skills to build strong relationships with partners in multiple business units to design, influence, and implement strategies that positively impact the company, and our promotional strategy for our entire Front Store team, partnering closely with our Executive Director of Pricing Planning & Execution and Executive Director of Promotion Optimization. You will partner with our Divisional Merchandising Managers and their Category Managers to provide optimal promotional strategies that drive consumer behaviors and ensure profitable bottom line financial accountability for CVS Health. In your role, you will build significant value for the enterprise by leveraging your creative thinking to elevate our consumer experience and drive consumers to our stores for their everyday shopping needs.
You will impact our business in the following ways:
Lead a team of 14 in the design, development, planning, and execution of a Front Store product-centric promotional vision that is compelling for consumers and drives retailer choice, delivering short and longer-term customer, trip, and basket growth for CVS. Scope includes mass market omnichannel category and branded item/price yellow-tag promotions, personalized branded and category coupons, and omnichannel promotional event overlays.
Align with Front Store leadership team and collaborate with marketing, merchandising, supply chain, store operations, and price & value peers to plan and execute differentiated business unit, seasonal, and/or bi-weekly promotional events. This includes designing and executing mass market deal structures and personalized coupons that are compelling and accessible to CVS shoppers, and leveraging performance results to recommend and plan future category and branded deals and coupons that will deliver intended results. It also includes co-leading go-to-market monthly promotional strategy sessions for the executive director level to identify and align on customer and business goals along with operational plans and key milestones. KPIs will be measured for total front store, business unit, and categories, and include P&L, trips/basket, customers, redeemers, discount depth, effective price position, yellow-tag constraints, reg/promo mix, etc.
Partner with Price & Value leadership team to continually innovate the holistic price, promotion, and coupon strategy, delivering a value proposition that is compelling and accessible for CVS customers. Responsibilities include leadership and participation in strategy development, experimentation design & execution, process improvement, capability development, executive communications, talent development, etc.
Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities:
This role will oversee and be responsible for developing and executing the product-centric yellow-tag promotion and branded/category coupon planning process, in close partnership with merchant peers. It includes responsibility for delivering front store overall and category-level promotional sales and margin, as budgeted and forecasted by merchant leaders and peers. It also includes responsibility for delivering weekly yellow-tag promotions and coupons to consumers via designated physical and digital communication channels.
Strategic Planning:
Develops and executes a comprehensive short and long-term product-centric promotion and coupon strategic vision to meet the business objectives of the Front Store leadership team
Routinely engage with peers and senior leaders (VP, SVP) across stakeholder groups in thought partnership on promotion and coupons strategy assessment, re-directing as necessary to meet dynamically changing retail consumer environment
Closely monitors macro and micro trends in the retail environment to evaluate competitive landscape using internal/external data; makes adjustments to strategy and actions accordingly
Navigates ambiguity and change to achieve goals despite potential obstacles
Leads and participates in meetings/calls with corporate partners and retail C-Suite Leaders to support overall agenda and front store strategy
Champions innovation by bringing ideas to own VP & SVP as well as the broader PCW Team in an agile way, while balancing growth against financial risk and incremental cost to the organization
Participates in three-year capability development roadmap for process and system enhancement investments to support overall agenda
Partners with the Price and Value leadership team to continually innovate the holistic price, promotion, and coupon strategy, delivering a value proposition that is compelling and accessible to customers. This includes leadership and participation in strategy development, experimentation design & execution, process improvement, capability development, executive communication, talent development, etc.
Cross-Functional Partnerships:
Develops strong, and trusted, relationships with key stakeholders in Marketing, Merchandising, Supply Chain, Store Operations and DDAT
Leverages key data insights on promotional trends to influence both with and without authority to achieve buy-in from key cross-functional partners
Successfully recommends categories, brands and deals that will be most compelling for consumers based on historical product performance and market trends.

Leverages a results-oriented mindset to assign appropriate timelines and accountabilities for initiatives, projects and deliverables. Empowers the team to drive action steps to bring to completion
“Inspects What They Expect” – routinely inspects and monitors key processes and functions; institutes improvement measures as needed; holds team accountable to KPIs and deliverables
Optimizes and level sets expectations with stakeholders by partnering closely with Merchandising Leadership, Marketing Leadership, Supply Chain Leadership, Field Leadership, and Store Operations to ensure appropriate levels of support and collaboration
Work cross-functionally with CSC partners to develop strategies and action plans to mitigate identified risks and opportunities tailored to the specific needs of each operating Division, as needed.
Optimizes use of data to support field execution of key programs and processes; ensures field feedback is incorporated by team into dashboards and reporting to improve utilization and effectiveness
Participates in the active management of Price & Value team resources to ensure OpEx, CapEx and IT Labor Hours spend is within fiscal year budget; recommends and advocates for budget for upcoming fiscal year to support the strategic plan and agenda for the team
Drives Improvement and Innovation:
Continuously looks for opportunities to drive efficiency and productivity across the team; partners with Price & Value leadership team, IT, and DDAT to identify and recommend implementation of new technologies to achieve this
Coaches and empowers team to identify new pathways to create simplicity for store teams and field leaders to execute key sales activities
Fully embraces organizational improvement initiatives, acting as a change agent with one’s own team and peers
Provides both constructive and positive feedback on new initiatives to appropriate teams. Look for ways to break through implementation barriers rather than be impeded by them.

Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$131,500.00 - $303,195.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
