3E/G is a unique team structure at Blodgett Hospital composed of two separate units but one team. 3E is a 24 bed Med/Surg unit with some Medical Orthopedic patients while 3G is a 22 bed Orthopedic unit primarily serving Total Joint Replacement Patients. Our team works on both units, providing a variety of patient population experience including Total Joint Replacement, Hip Fracture, Osteomyelitis, and other medical patients. Nurses on the 3EG team are part of an exceptional Joint Replacement program that is one of the largest and best in the nation, serving on average 2,800 patients per year. The program has received and maintained Joint Replacement Disease Specific Certification from the Joint Commission as a testament to our teams’ dedication to provide high-quality care.


Summary of Responsibilities

Nurse Technicians act as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).  Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. 

Essential Functions:

  • Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider.
  • Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Provides direct patient care under the direction of the RN or Provider, consistent with clinical policies and procedures, and department standard work. Provides input in the development of an individualized plan of care. Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Articulates the nursing technician role to the patient, family and health team members. Provides support to facilitate safe, quality patient care in a cost-effective manner.
  • Cleans patient’s environment / work area / equipment and communicates any equipment malfunctions to appropriate department / unit personnel.
  • Demonstrates a high standard of moral and ethical behavior. Advocates for privacy, confidentiality and security of patient, staff and organization data.

Orientation and Training

It will begin with 2 days of training in a simulation center environment and 1 day of EPIC training with our Nurse Educators.  These are prescheduled classes from 8 am to 4:30 pm.  These in person classes will typically fall on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday week 1 of employment.  Because these classes are prescheduled, you must attend all full days, and we cannot reschedule any of the required dates if you cannot attend.  Attendance is compensated, as it is required for compliance. You will have 6-9 additional shifts of orientation on the unit working alongside a preceptor. These shifts will be coordinated between you and the Nurse Educator. Once complete, you would then assume your core schedule for the unit.
